U.S. Navy veteran pilot Lt. Brett Mitchell and other organizers aim to soar high with a Heroes and Huskies fundraiser Sunday from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The fundraiser coincides with the return of “Top Gun: Maverick” to 12th Street Cinema the same weekend, giving moviegoers a chance to ask questions of a real-life Top Gun pilot while supporting charity at the same time.
“The reason we’re doing it is to just give the community a chance to come ask questions and hear a little bit about my background, since it’s a pretty unique occupation,” Mitchell explained. “I guess experience that I had ties in directly with the movie because it’s the same kind of plane I flew missions for, similar missions to what I trained...and also tying in an opportunity to raise money for the Aurora High School Heroes and Huskies program.”
The organization pairs high school history students with local veterans to learn about the service and duty that members of the armed forces provided for the United States.
