Firefighters from Hampton, Aurora and Bradshaw responded to a house fire at the corner of 4th and G streets in Hampton Saturday around 3:20 p.m.
Hampton Assistant Fire Chief Gene Senff reported Monday that the fire was started by hot coals in a garbage can left by the garage, which spread to half the house and took approximately two hours to extinguish.
“When we got the call (the house) was fully engulfed, (with) flames coming out of the roof, on the garage and the south side of the house,” Senff said.
While firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the south side of the house near the garage, Senff said that the damage was a near total loss.
“It seems it is probably a total loss, by the time it’s all said and done, with the smoke damage and burns,” Senff explained. “Half of the house is still standing, to put it that way, but (there was) a lot of damage.”
