A conditional use permit (CUP) for MFC Construction of Aurora, that was previously given the green light by the county’s Joint Planning and Zoning Commission, sailed through to approval by the Hamilton County Board of Commissioners on Monday morning.
The permit for the addition of a storage area to an existing building at the metal fabrication business at 808 South Highway 14, south of I-80 was approved on a unanimous vote with no conditions.
The CUP had been one of two items considered at the Planning and Zoning Commission’s March 19 meeting at which the CUP for Synergen Green Energy’s planned ammonia plant failed to receive approval by the body. Although denied a recommendation for approval from Planning and Zoning, the Synergen permit application is expected to come before the County Commission at some point in the future.
With no other action items on the commission’s agenda on Monday, much of the time of the meeting between the 8:30 start time and 9 a.m. when the public hearing was scheduled to begin, was spent in routine business items.
Early in the meeting Commission Chairman Rich Nelson pointed out the fact that the “public participation” portion of the meeting had been moved up to the beginning (just after the approval of the minutes) to bring it in line with recent changes made by the Nebraska Legislature.
“The Unicameral says Public Participation must now be on every agenda,” Nelson said. “So we are moving it to the beginning and next week we will review the rules regarding public comment.”
