JEO Consulting to design new facilities at Mitchell Field
The Aurora City Council approved plans for additional work on the Streeter Sixth Addition as part of the pending 1st Street construction project during its June 11 meeting.
After hearing a brief report from JEO Consulting, the council voted unanimously to approve plans and specifications for work expected to begin within the next few weeks. Those plans involved installation of utility infrastructure in the Streeter Sixth Addition, which was added after the initial plans were approved several weeks ago.
Prior to that vote, the council approved the third and final reading of 1192, an annexation ordinance which officially makes the Streeter Fifth Addition part of the city.
In a related matter, the council held a public hearing, which drew no comments for or against a request from Streeter LLC, to approve the preliminary and final plats for the Streeter Sixth Addition. After that unanimous vote, the council then approved the first of three readings required to annex Streeter Sixth Addition into the city limits.
JEO engineer Andrew Wilshusen then addressed the council regarding the scope of services his firm is proposing for the councession and restroom building at Mitchell Field. Wilsusen said that JEO’s architectural group will design the buildings, essentially providing a floor plan and structural design that meets ADA requirements, as well as facade improvements. Once those plans are completed, the city will be able to get bids for the project, which is expected to be completed this summer.
“You’re getting a set of plans that is stamped by a structural engineer and architect for a public facility,” he explained. “That’s the biggest thing.”
The council approved the scope of services by unanimous vote, agreeing to pay JEO $22,500 for the project plans.
The only other item on the agenda involved applications to sell fireworks. All applications were approved, including those from James Clark, doing business as Fireworks 4-Less at the Aurora Mall; Richard Ludvik, dba Ka-Boomer’s Enterprises at 850 Q St.; Tom Towne, dba Marv’s Fireworks at 206 16th St.; and Cindy Music, dba Garrett’s Fireworks at 1077 Q St., near JoJo’s Gelato.
