High Plains senior Hailey Lindburg drilled two heroic three-pointers with the season on the line in Thursday’s D2-3 Subdistrict final against Osceola and had a shot at school history just before the final buzzer, but the last one would not fall.
Lindburg’s late scoring surge helped the Lady Storm tie the game at 35 versus an Osceola team playing on its home court, which meant overtime was needed to decide which team would advance to the district final. High Plains came up short in the extra period, falling 43-38 and ending its season one win shy of a first-ever subdistrict championship.
“She had some huge shots; shots I’ve never seen her hit before, so that was good,” Storm coach Mack Alspaugh said of Lindburg’s gutsy 18-point performance. “We had put the ball in her hands and obviously in overtime they face-guarded her. But, man, I mean when you’re down six with a minute some left, you’re shaking a little bit and you don’t know what’s going on and she hits those two threes, we were pretty pumped after that.”
