It was two sides of the coin for Aurora and Hampton football in the opening round of the football playoffs Friday night.

The Huskies picked up its second win over Central City in seven days while the Hawks hosted its first playoff game since 2009, but couldn't find that elusive win over Wallace.

Behind a 200-yard rushing night from QB Wyatt Pollet, Aurora impressed with a 42-21 win over the Bison on the road. For a second game, the Husky defense held strong, holding a speedy Central City offense to just seven points through three quarters of play.

Along with his 200 yards, Pollet also threw for three touchdowns to Collin Stolpe, Canon Allen and Ryan Staehr. Pollet added another score on the ground while Allen also tallied a rushing TD.

The game was tied at 7 before Aurora scored 28 unanswered, eventually leading 35-7 by the end of the third.

Aurora advances to the quarterfinals of the Class C1 playoffs and has a date at Columbus Lakeview next Friday. The Vikings are a perfect 10-0 on the season and defeated Boys Town 21-14 to begin the playoffs.

As for Hampton, the Hawks and Wallace went blow for blow early in the game before several miscues and turnovers in the third quarter turned the game upside down for the home team in a 51-20 loss.

Hampton and Wallace were tied at 20 midway through the second quarter after Hampton had some success mixing up the run and pass with the likes of Landen Rojewski, Landen Hansen and Tyler Mollevik.

Wallace found pay dirt twice in the final three minutes of the half to lead 32-20 and garner the momentum before adding three pivotal scores in the third. The third quarter ended disastrously for Hampton with four turnovers as anything that could go wrong, did.

Hampton ends its final flight season with a 7-2 record. Seniors for the Hawks include Tyler Mollevik, Porter Dose, Kyler Luebbe and Wyatt Dose.
