It’s time we put a bow around this year’s college football recruiting season, so here are some of the recent recruits who signed on the dotted line for 2022 making my All-Name team:
I’ll start off with Jeffry M’ba of Auburn. Interesting last name to say the least. Then there’s the trio from Florida State including Azareye’h Thomas, Greedy Vance and Bless Harris. How about Falentha Carswell of Mississippi? Or Ephesians Prysock of Arizona?
What about Emar’rion Winston and Sir Mells of Oregon? Or Lovasea Carroll of South Carolina, Linus Zunk of Vanderbilt, Theodor Melon Ohrstron of Texas A&M, Shazz Preston of Alabama, Bear Alexander of Georgia, Hero Kanu of Oklahoma State, Savion Red and Lance St. Louis of Texas, Toriano Pride of Clemson, West Weeks of LSU, Oakie Salave’a of Colorado, Amipeleasi Fifita of Houston, and of course, Hut Graham of Texas Tech.
All good names, catchy names, many which fans will cheer for in the coming years. And Hut was probably my runner up (as in “hut hut” of course).
But my overall winner was a slam dunk this year, and not just because he signed with the Huskers.
This year’s trophy goes to...Decoldest Crawford, a future wide receiver out of Shreveport.
Decoldest had 12 college offers including LSU, but new assistant coach Mickey Joseph lured him to Lincoln where I’m sure he’ll enjoy the cold Nebraska winters for the next three or four years, true to his name.
Decoldest supposedly is a big-time prospect, so fingers crossed he’ll be around for awhile, contributing to the Husker team as they climb back up the ladder into championship contention.
It’s going to happen.

While Nebraska’s class didn’t make the top 25 this year in all of the major recruiting service polls, they did do very well in the transfer portal, getting immediate help where it’s needed most on offense at quarterback, wide receiver, running back and the O-line.
In fact, Frost and Co. brought in a total of 11 transfer players, which in my unofficial count of the top 50 recruiting classes, was second only to LSU and Mississippi, schools that added 12 each.
Oklahoma and Florida State brought in 10 transfers apiece, while TCU signed nine and Minnesota eight.
On the other end of the spectrum, Iowa didn’t sign a single player in the portal, but that could still change.
According to Rivals, Nebraska’s class finished 10th out of 14 Big Ten teams, Eastern division schools dominating by securing seven of the top eight spots.
On the surface, coaches who need to win right away now have another tool to use by hitting the portal hard. If they can lure enough talent in, and if they’re the right fit, things can potentially turn around in a hurry.
Let’s hope Casey Thompson, Trey Palmer, Hunter Anthony, Tommi Hill, Chubba Purdy and that entire group can make an immediate impact in Lincoln.
Scott Frost’s job probably depends on it.
