New home boosts August building permit total

Body

A new single-family dwelling on Beechwood Drive boosted the number of home construction projects for the year to nine, also representing the lion’s share of building permit totals issued during August at City Hall.
Brian and Chelsea Kaufman documented plans to build a new home at 2221 Beechwood, located in the new Northridge Subdivision west of Highway 14. The building permit, valued at $800,000, puts the eight-month total for new single-family dwellings at nine, compared to seven last year and two in 2023.
There were only eight building permits issued for the month, adding up to $840,732. That month-end total compares to $112,104 last year, and $3.7 million in August of 2023, when KAAPA Partners Aurora invested $3.5 million in an addition to an existing maintenance building on Harvest Drive.
The year-to-date tally now stands at $13.04 million, compared to $11.07 million last year and $8.82 million in 2023.
Love’s $3 million building permit issued last month remains as the largest single permit issued thus far in 2025.
The totals for August the past decade are listed as follows: $1.4 million in 2022, sparked a surge of five single-family dwelllings; $639,400 in 2021; $2.3 million in 2020, boosted by a $2.2 million building project at the United Methodist Church; $1.04 million in 2019, when a new $500,000 Dollar General building on 16th Street pushed the total over the $1 million mark; $121,200 in 2018; $472,150 in 2017 $44,029 in 2016; and $525,600 in 2015.
