Veterans Day programs planned at area schools
Hamilton County Schools are preparing their annual Veterans Day programs. Each school will recognize the men and women who have dedicated their lives to protecting and serving their country with special assemblies of students and the public.
Aurora
Aurora High School will have its Veterans Day program on Friday, Nov. 10 at 9:15 a.m. in the school’s south gym.
The Aurora High School Student Council will sponsor a breakfast for veterans and their spouses prior to the program.
A Quilts of Valor ceremony will take place with veterans receiving a quilt from the Nimble Thimble Quilt Guild.
The high school band and choir will be performing throughout the program.
High Plains
The Veterans Day program will take place Friday at 10 a.m. in the main gym in Polk.
The main speaker of the program will be Jerry Landkamer of Norfolk, a Navy veteran who served in the Vietnam War and is a member of Norfolk American Legion Post 16.
The High Plains Choir will be performing for the program as well.
Hampton
The program is set for Friday from 1:30-2:30 p.m. in the school’s south gym.
The program will be led by veteran and Hampton Fire Chief, Dane Shafer, with Aurora Mayor Marlin Seeman, as speaker. Seeman served as a specialist in the Army during the Vietnam War.
The school will host a burning ceremony where students will assist in properly folding the flags and burning them in the proper manner for disposal.
Giltner
The Veterans Day program took place on Tuesday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. in the school’s gym. The speaker of program was Matt Greathouse who works as a flight instructor for the National Guard. He has served three tours in Afghanistan during his 25 years of service.
The 6th grade class was also to give presentations over the Civil War, World War I and World War II.
