Back at ANR, now in a different role

Body

I’m officially back.
After a short break from writing and other journalistic duties, I am back at the News-Register until I go to school in Lincoln in August.
While I took my short hiatus after graduation, I did lots of crazy things like academic advising, driving on the interstate for the first time and some cat sitting as well, but now I am 100 percent dedicated to journalism again.
In the time that I’m back, I will be covering anything and everything that Kurt and Ron throw my way. Currently, I’m working on writing stories about all of Prairie Plains’ summer education opportunities and will be getting back to my roots as a photographer for a few assignments as well.
I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work for the News-Register, given that I have no degree and didn’t even go through a job interview process (perks of being an intern).
In addition to being added to the payroll, I also got a desk upgrade and a new chair. If I squint my eyes hard enough, I could pretend I’ve got a corner desk at Forbes headquarters in New York City.
On a more serious note, working for the News-Register as a fresh high school grad is not an experience that many people get to have, and I am beyond thankful for Kurt trusting me to take this role.
Being able to report for the community that has given me so much is a tremendous honor, and I still find it hard to believe sometimes. Opportunities like this don’t come around often.
I would like to thank the Aurora community for being open to me and my writing when I first started as an intern back in January. I was terrified to have any writing published, but when the scathing reviews never showed up, I knew I would be right at home working for this newspaper.
Now, here I am. I’m more excited than ever to get to write for the town that has seen me grow up and into a (hopefully) cool and sophisticated young person.
When I move to Lincoln, I will be pursuing journalism as my major, with the possibility of music being a second major. It’s still in the works as of right now, but I’m exploring something they call a ‘dual matriculation,’ which simply means I would be studying for two separate bachelor’s degrees at the same time.
It would take me an extra year, but I couldn’t just leave my passion for music behind, so I am looking at every possibility to pursue both of my loves at the same time.
While in Lincoln, I also plan on potentially getting involved with the Lincoln Community Playhouse, the Lincoln Repertory Theatre and auditioning for one of the six a cappella groups on campus.
But of course, many of you will probably see me on most weekends back here in Aurora. It’s going to be almost impossible for me to stay away from my parents and my home for more than two weeks at a time.
But for now, I’m an A-Town reporter through and through. I can’t wait to really get into the swing of things. be prepared to see a lot more of me in the paper!
