Three weeks after approaching the Hamilton County Board of Commissioners, Hamilton County Sheriff Jeromy McCoy earned approval from the board for the purchase of body and in-car cameras to be used across Aurora and Hamilton County law departments.
“In June I presented during budget that our in-car cameras had been purchased in 2011,” McCoy said in the Dec. 27 meeting. “With those in-car cameras you wear body microphones so that the camera catches the audio. Currently, none of those work.”
After two weeks of collecting the correct information, he was back with the correct quote from Motorola.
“I did get the correct quote from Motorola Solutions, that came in at $48,260 for nine body cameras and six in-car cameras,” he said. “We’ve previously discussed that I also have quotes from Brite, which was the Getac cameras, and Axon which was, just for the body cameras, a (few) thousand dollars.”
Still carrying the belief that the Motorola product would best serve both the Aurora Police Department and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department -- who’d be sharing the tech -- he reiterated his recommendation for the Motorola bid.
