Reader offended by News-Register editorial

Body

Dear Editor:
What an appalling editorial from a week or so ago, titled “To vax or not to vax?” It leaves out the most important criteria in the decision, that the vaccines are absolutely SAFE.
Ironically in the same paper there is a ad for the Aurora News-Register about how social media and politics are dividing us and how newspapers bring communities together. Yet the choice to leave out vaccines are safe seems a pretty political, dividing decision.
And this is from the same paper that has published racist political cartoons just this year. Spreading racism certainly isn’t something to bring people together and seems pretty dividing. But Kurt Johnson’s excuse (lie) for it is that it was part of a editorial cartoon subscription, as if he has no editorial control to decide not to publish racism like that or who they continue their editorial cartoon subscription with.
The Aurora News-Register seems to be doing its fair share of spreading division.

Editor’s note: The News-Register subscribes to a syndicated cartoon published in several papers across Nebraska as part of an effort to share a variety of opinions on the editorial page. Though disappointed the reader perceived the cartoon as racist, the publisher did not, and for the record does not agree with all views shared on this page.

Credit card theft in Grand Island causes concern
Dear Editor:
I would like to offer a word of caution to local residents who shop regularly at Hy-Vee in Grand Island.
My wife and I are still struggling to get our financial records back in order after having our credit card information stolen at Hy-Vee, and then later learning that the thief went on a spending spree. We shared information as to the thief’s possible identity, with Hy-Vee and Grand Island police authorities, but they don’t seem interested in investigating the case, or in helping us resolve our financial problems.
