Griffith sweeps Class B throws
Gage Griffith had himself a weekend.
The Aurora junior added a win in the Class B shot put event Saturday to his win in the discus on Friday, taking gold in both events for the Huskies at the state track and field meet from Omaha Burke.
Griffith waited until his final throw of the finals to take the lead in the event, hurling a mark of 55-08 to defeat Central City's Eric Lenz.
Aurora had several other solid performance on day two, including Caden Carlson earning a runner-up finish in the pole vault. Carlson, along with McCook's Talyn Campell and Seward's Kalen Knott all cleared 14-06, but none of them could make the 15-00 mark. Campell took first based on misses while Carlson finished second.
Cassidy Knust ended her Aurora track career with an 8th place finish in the 800 meter run, doing so in a time of 2:22.78, a new personal record. That mark moves her to 11th on Aurora's all-time list in the event.
Carsen Staehr added a 9th place effort in the triple jump to go with his 9th place finish in the long jump.
Both of Aurora's 400 relay teams were in action as well. The Lady Husky foursome of Eva Fahrnbruch, Madelyn Brown, Emily Erickson and Kaylee Crosby clocked in at 51.04 to finish 13th overall. That time puts the Aurora foursome to 9th on Aurora's all-time list.
The boys quartet of Jacob Settles, Staehr, Carlos Collazo and Koby Nachtigal ran a time of 44.21 to finish 9th.
As a team, the Aurora boys finished tied for fifth in the team race with 33 points in a competitive Class B field, won by Hastings.
