The first weekend of October was tough sledding for Hamilton County football teams. Only one of the four teams came out on the right side of play by the end of Friday night.
That was the Aurora Huskies, who despite a slow start moved to 6-0 on the season with a 27-10 win over Hastings Friday. Sam Jones found Kash Kleinschmidt for a big play as the Huskies led 7-3 at the half before scoring three times in the second half to get the win.
It sets up a key Class B top five showdown next week as the Huskies make the 300-plus road trip west to see fellow undefeated Scottsbluff.
H&H was back at home Friday and despite slowing down a solid Malcolm rushing attack, the Clippers left Henderson with a 42-20 win. The Bearcats used a pair of key kick returns to set up a couple second half scores. H&H will host Homecoming festivities next week, welcoming Doniphan-Trumbull to town.
Giltner was on the road Thursday night in a shootout, but it was Grand Island Lutheran who held on for a 62-50 win. The Hornets scored all 50 of its points in the final three quarters, including four TD passes from Brody Rudy to Braxton Cady. Officially, Rudy finished with 6 TD throws and 299 yards. Giltner will visit Harvard next week.
High Plains was on the road Friday for a district matchup with Silver Lake as the Mustangs blanked the Storm, 40-0. HPC will host Red Cloud next week.
