Sutton native happy to be starting her dental career in small-town Nebraska community
Reichardt Family & Cosmetic Dentistry will soon have a new name added to the sign on its 13th Street building reflecting the addition of a new associate dentist, Kesean Bundy.
Aurora native and long-time local dentist Kirk Reichardt said he is excited about the addition, explaining the impact on his practice.
“Our son Brock (now a dentist at Soul Dentistry in Port Charlotte, Fla.) decided he didn’t want to come back so I talked to the dental school about finding someone to come to Aurora,” he explained. “Kesean is very talented, got glowing reviews from everyone at the dental school and our personalities matched really well. I’m getting older and want to slow down eventually and spend more time with the grandkids, so this will give me a little more time to do that.”
Reichardt, a 1985 Aurora graduate, completed his dental education in 1995 and established a local practice on the north side of the downtown square, where Touch of Health is now located. In 2001, he purchased the building at 1219 13th St. from the Aurora Development Corporation and renovated the structure to feature numerous exam rooms and office space.
One of those offices is now occupied by Bundy, a Sutton native who graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry in May. She and her husband, Tanner, who will continue his job as a firefighter in Lincoln, have already purchased a home in Aurora and moved to the community.
“I’ve always known I wanted to come back and help out a rural community,” she said last week in her third day on the job. “Living in Lincoln, I knew what it was like having to drive 30 minutes to the dentist, ER or whatever, so it was really important to me to go someplace to help a small community. I’m also a mom and living in Lincoln with a little one I realized really quickly that’s not where I want to raise my kids.”
Bundy is diving right in, getting to know her patients, as well as the community she now calls home.
“I’ll handle pretty much everything involved with general dentistry,” she said. “I’ll put in fillings, crowns, exams for your cleanings and I’m even open to doing cleanings at this time just to get more familiar with the community. I’m not the person who just pops in for two minutes and pops out, because I want to get to know my patients.”
Bundy’s philosophy at work will be reflected in her personal life as well, she said.
“My husband is originally from Ord and we’re both very excited to be back in a smaller town,” she said. “We already feel like we’re outside more, doing more of the things we love. We’re also much closer to both sides of our family, so it’s been great.”
It’s been a busy few months for the Bundy family, as Kesean graduated from dental school, she underwent a knee surgery, and they bought and moved into a new home all within a few weeks time. They also found out their soon-to-be 2-year old daughter, Noa, will soon become a big sister.
“The last two months of my life have been pretty insane,” she admitted. “Our motto is bite off more than you can chew, and learn how to chew it because what else can you do. It’s all just very exciting.”
New hygienist
Reichardt Dental has another new member of the staff in Alyssa Empfield, who began her role as a dental hygienist in June.
Empfield, a Grand Island native who has friends and family ties in Aurora, graduated in May from the UNMC College of Dentistry.
“I definitely knew right away that I wanted to go back to an area kind of where I was from,” she said. “I’m excited to be here.”
As a full-time hygienist, Empfield will provide cleanings and preventative care to new and long-term patients.
