It's Election Day
It's finally here... General Election Day 2024! As expected, the polls are unusually busy today across Nebraska. On Monday Secretary of State Bob Evnen’s office sent out a press release predicting 72 percent voter turnout in today's election. The release stated that the estimate was based on early voting turnout and turnout trends in recent general elections. Meanwhile, Hamilton County Clerk Jill DeMers was also expecting a large turnout of voters, saying that as of Monday morning a total of 1,066 early voting ballots had been received at her office.
With the presence of six write-in candidates in various elections in Hamilton County, plus delays in counting some votes caused by the new voter ID law in Nebraska, the News-Register made the decision last week not to hold our presses in order to publish election results in this week's edition. However, as soon as unofficial results are known in the numerous local races, results will be published as breaking news in this space on our website.
