High Plains Community School cancelled all classes and activities Monday and Tuesday in an effort to let staff and students get healthy.
Supt. Kim Beran reported Monday that approximately 10 percent of the student body at both the Polk and Clarks school sites was absent late last week due to illness, prompting a timely decision to hit the pause button.
“Students weren’t originally scheduled to come in today anyway, so we just decided to close Monday and Tuesday,” Beran said in a Monday interview. “We had illness going through both buildings and thought it was safer for staff and students to shut it down and do some deep cleaning.”
Beran clarified that some COVID-19 cases have been reported in the district, though not all of the health-related absences were linked to the on-going pandemic.
