The Hampton Board of Education took action on Monday, March 11 to replace 7-12 special education (SPED) teacher Dalton Miller, who recently resigned to take a collegiate position in Kansas.
Miller, who also served as boys head basketball coach, had submitted a letter of resignation saying he has accepted a position at Manhattan Christian College in Manhattan, Kan., as an assistant activities director and head women’s basketball coach. The school board accepted the resignation and then moved to hire Miller’s replacement.
Hampton alumnus Josh Hoegh has been hired as the new 7-12 SPED teacher. Supt. Holly Herzberg said Hoegh has 22 years of education experience and had recently moved back to Hamilton County to farm.
The board also approved the hiring of Kate Schendt as the 7-12 Spanish teacher. Herzberg said Schendt, who currently serves as the K-12 guidance counselor at Giltner Public School, will also be teaching some career classes at Hampton.
In a procedural move which all schools do annually, the board approved the emergency operations plan for the district. Herzberg said the plan was developed in a cooperative effort with the school’s safety and security team, as well as Hampton Fire Chief Dane Schafer, local law enforcement officer Todd Williamsen and Hamilton County Emergency Manager Kirt Smith.
Herzberg said the board also discussed the possibility of looking into forming a cooperative for sports. Board President Grant Dose appointed a committee to begin investigating various possibilities.
