Hampton Veteran Memorial to be next to Aud
Surveys to start soon for water pipeline to Aurora
Organizers of the planned Hampton Veterans Memorial have received the okay from the village board to move the park to a different location, one that will give the memorial more room for future expansion if necessary. Representatives of the memorial committee appeared at the board’s November meeting on the 10th to request that the memorial be moved from its present proposed site in the vacant lot on the south side of Hampton’s city hall. They said they wanted to locate it on the empty southeast corner of the City Auditorium (known locally as “The Aud”) lot.
The committee has been raising funds for the memorial park for more than a year and had a display of sample tiles from the installation at the school for the Veterans Day program last Tuesday. (The tiles which bear the names and likenesses of area veterans are still on display next to the entrance of the new gym.)
Saying they saw no conflict with locating the memorial at the new site at the intersection of 1st Street and B, the trustees voted to allow the installation.
In other actions by the board of trustees that night, the board looked over a draft of the water purchase agreement with the City of Aurora for the planned pipeline that will bring Aurora water to Hampton. Miller and Associates Engineers reported that they are hoping to begin the land surveys for the pipeline later this month, now that the crops are out of the fields along County Road 14, the route the pipeline will follow.
The board also voted approval of Ordinance 416 which amends definitions of village zoning regulations. The vote codifies proposed changes discussed at the meeting last month by County Planning and Zoning Administrator Hillary Betka. She told the trustees in October that the changes recommended by the county’s Joint Planning Commission include amending certain setback requirements for structures including fences and adding language defining certain kinds of dwellings, including those known as barndominiums. The new regulations were to go into effect about two weeks after passage and publication.
