The 2021 Hamilton County Fair kicked off with a bang Monday, igniting a week-long celebration of history, tradition and fun for all ages.
An anvil was blown into the air during opening ceremonies in the grandstands, the first of many events planned at the fairgrounds this week.
Several local veterans were honored during a Quilt of Valor ceremony, before the crowd moved inside the Farr Building to cooler temperatures, and another fitting tribute.
“I want to welcome everybody here,” began Mark Kliewer, vice president of the ag society. “Those of you who have been around the fair for a few years recognize this gentleman. Ken Killion was very instrumental in this fair for a lot of years. We want to honor Ken tonight for the amount of service that he gave for Hamilton County Fair, for the Extension, and for the ag society.”
Killion then took the microphone, reflecting on his tenure as a long-time fair manager and board member.
“Thank you for this invitation to be honored like this to be part of this celebration,” Killion began. “I’ve always been proud of Hamilton County, the ag society and this fair.”
