Downtown mural to be dedicated Oct. 25

A colorful mural depicting the community of Aurora will be officially dedicated in a ceremony scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 4 p.m.
Tammy Morris, executive director of the Hamilton Community Foundation, which funded and coordinated the project, announced the event, inviting the public to celebrate the artistic addition to the community as well as meeting the artists who brought it to life.
The artists, Brianna and Bristol Lewis, are twin sisters who grew up in the Kansas City area where they were involved in both sports and art. They began working on the project in mid September, turning a blank wall on the north side of a Hamilton Telecommunications building into a huge, colorful canvas.
The Hamilton Community Foundation envisioned the project to reflect the past, present and future of Aurora, according to Morris.
“They wanted something that people can come and be like, ‘Wow, that is something I can relate to as someone who lives here,’” Bristol shared in an earlier ANR interview.
Morris explained that the foundation was impressed by the sisters dedication to the proposal, finding out they had traveled to Aurora prior to submitting their design proposal to gain an idea of the town’s character.
The artists say part of their reward for painting the mural is that they have been approached numerous times by members of the community wanting to watch the process. They say they have received nothing but high praise for their work.
Cider and cookies will be served at the nearby HCF office following the dedication.
