City’s goal to ‘hold the line’ on budget

Body

The Aurora City Council unanimously approved a $15.17 million budget for the 2020-21 fiscal year last week, citing a goal to “hold the line” on planned capital expenditures in an effort to reduce the tax requirement on local citizens and businesses impacted financially by the COVID pandemic.
This year’s operating budget reflects a 4 percent ($514,260) increase over last year’s fiscal plan, with the property tax request going up 3 percent ($40,000) to $1.57 million. No one spoke either for or against the proposed budget during a Sept. 8 public hearing.
