Without God we are a lost society
Dear Editor:
I may not be able to debate the issue Mr. Willem brought up about chaplains (LB549-FYI, does NOT displace counselors) from a technical perspective, but I want to share from my heart. Back in 1963, 22 words were removed from the public school in America. Since that time, everything harmful to a society skyrocketed: teen pregnancy, divorce, drug abuse, sexual abuse, pornography, sexually transmitted diseases, crime, including government spending.
Let’s get to the root. Prayer and the Bible were removed from our public schools. Let’s face it. We are spiritual beings and desperately need connection with God. Some of our kids now know nothing about who God is and what our country was founded upon. Maybe there are faith leaders out in the community, but so many kids have no connection with them. By allowing a chaplain on campus, those kids could have a chance to connect. They need to know God loves them no matter what; that He is a God of new beginnings; He wants to set our feet on solid ground.
Approximately $13 million from ESSER (COVID) has been spent on the mental health crisis in our schools here in Nebraska and what good fruit have we seen from this? Even recently, the state school board voted down a large grant for mental health in our schools, because logically, what has been employed in the mental health area of our schools has not been working. It was concluded that we have to look outside the box for answers.
It boils down to this, man tries to find his answers, but without God, we are a lost society.
