Vote NO on city sales tax

Body

Dear Editor:
I have been watching with interest and concern the information that is coming out about the Aurora city sales tax issue.
The city is proposing to collect an extra $1,000,000 to $1,300,000 above what it currently collects, which is a massive increase. This money that they are hoping to take belongs to the citizens of Aurora. Should there not have been much discussion with these same citizens on the amount of the proposed increase and on what this new income stream would be spent?
Our city officials need to do their due diligence and have a coherent plan with actual numbers on it for specific budget items. Then the citizens of our town will be able to know if this is something they want to back.
When someone asks us if we want to buy something, it’s not unreasonable to expect to know exactly what it is we’re purchasing before approving the expenditure. I am not interested in funding a vague, haphazard project like this where we aren’t even given specific information on how our money will be spent.
Vote NO on city sales tax!
