Nebraskans stood for life in election
Dear Editor:
As I’m sure is true for most of you, I am doing some reflecting on the past election season and the outcomes of it. I am so grateful that the majority of the people in Nebraska stood for life and rejected Initiative 439.
We are so accustomed to words and phrases like: “pro-life, pro-choice, reproductive rights, anti-abortion, my body-my choice, etc” that I wonder how often we really stop and consider the facts about this issue.
Human life begins at conception. From that moment on a new, distinct, and unique person begins to grow in the mother’s womb. God is the Giver and Designer of life. The Psalmist speaks of this in 139:13-16, “You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb . . . You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion . . . You saw me before I was born.”
The truth of abortion is that it ends the life of the baby. It is not part of the mother’s body (though nestled in and nourished by her body); it is a separate person. The 7th commandment say, “Thou shalt not kill.” When we take the life of another human being that is murder in God’s eyes. Before an abortion, a baby is alive and growing. After an abortion a baby is dead.
God is a gracious and forgiving God. When we repent and ask for His forgiveness, even for the sin of ending another’s life, He “abundantly pardons.”
I pray that we, as a nation, will repent and ask forgiveness for the sin of abortion.
Thank you Nebraskans for standing for life in this recent election. Let us persevere until our laws no longer allow the killing babies at ANY stage of life.
Kathy Nauman,
Giltner
