Native son takes home town along on dream quest

Body

Baylor Sheierman has earned a lot of titles and wordy accolades since he wore a Husky uniform. His latest feat needs just three letters to describe.
He’s a wizard on the basketball court, and Aurora fans know he can get it done on the football field as well.
He’s a young man with vision, both in terms of how to thread the needle between defenders to find an open man, capable as well of setting lofty long-term goals and doing everything in his power to reach them.
He’s a genuine hometown hero, a fine ambassador for our community and the kind of player and young man you want your sons to aspire to play and be like.
He’s a humble man of faith, able to play with raw, unabashed energy, yet always respecting himself, his opponents and the game that has given him so much opportunity already.
And oh by the way, as of last week he’s a first-round NBA draft pick, headed to the World Champion Boston Celtics. Holy headbands, 55. That’s a really big deal.
True to form, Baylor reached out to ANR sports editor Richard Rhoden and invited him to attend last week’s draft watch party in Omaha. He knows BigRich is a big fan, of course, but Baylor also knows his old hometown is fully engaged in his NBA dream. It was a heart-felt gesture, offering some insight in this week’s edition that locals will enjoy.
You don’t have to be a hoops fanatic, or even a sports fan for that matter, to appreciate what Baylor Scheierman has meant to Aurora these past few years. Whatever else was going on in the world, we could talk about his latest game and smile, knowing that a native son is playing with the best of the best, and winning.
BigRich is already asking about credentials and a plane ticket to Boston, so this feel-good story is only going to get better.
