Mayor thanks citizens for voting on sales tax issue
Dear editor and citizens of Aurora:
As you read this letter I assume you have exercised your civic duty of voting on Election Day, May 14th. You have been asked by our elected fellow citizens to consider how the financing of city government shall be funded over the coming years. Much community discussion has taken place to determine the wishes of the majority of our voters.
The conversations have centered around “shall local option sales tax be implemented to offset reliance on property taxes” or “shall local city budgets continue to be fully funded by property tax only.” This weighty decision has been discussed over the past 10 years and has been resolved by our citizen voters.
I want to thank you on behalf of myself, the city council members and city staff for your consideration of this important decision. If you chose to vote for city sales tax funding, this would be utilized for property tax reductions, as well as funding the desired community needs of public safety, recreation, social and civic activities and economic development.
Thank you for making your voices heard and for weighing the importance of these decisions.
Marlin Seeman,
Mayor of Aurora
