Holiday shines early in light of COVID angst

Don’t ever say, “Not in our household!” For over 60 years I stood firm on no Christmas decorations or Christmas lights will be displayed in our home until after the Thanksgiving Day celebration has been concluded.
The past few years the Betterhalf has been fudging a little bit. On a couple of occasions the dinner plates no sooner were placed in the dishwasher and she rushed to the basement to bring up boxes of Christmas decor. I flinched, but never relented on my firm stand. She also pushed it a little more when she began stringing, but not turning on a whopping number of lights on (can you imagine?) a small crabapple tree in the front yard.
It appears my long standing “no Christmas decor before Thanksgiving” now has been overruled. Christmas lights on the inside and outside trees have been burning at least a week before Thanksgiving. I confronted the Betterhalf  with my once firm edict only to face a stern gal who quickly said: “Because of this COVID-19 thing, I think we need some Christmas cheer and joy to come early this year.”
Normally when confronted by the Betterhalf  I challenge her opinions. But after a moment of my rare smart thinking, I became a wimp and said, “I think you’re right.”
Now we move ahead and I realize my days as the ruler of our abode are over. I spoke with a close friend  a few days ago and told him of my situation. He didn’t sympathize with me at all. He basically told me I was never ruler of the household – I just thought I was!

“Oh, what a strange looking cow,” exclaimed the sweet young thing from Chicago, “But why hasn’t she any horns?”
“Well, you see,” explained the farmer, “some cows are born without horns and never had any and others shed theirs, and some we dehorn, and some breeds ain’t got horns, but  the reason why that cow ain’t got horns is because she ain’t a cow – she’s a horse.”

Each day is a thread woven into the tapestry of life, and  we have the power to choose the colors.
