Explanation needed on city’s Hwy 34 decision
Dear Editor:
Last week’s article about reducing Hwy 34 through Aurora to two lanes with turning lanes made me feel like I was being forced to trade a decent pair of scissors for a useless pair of plastic kindergarten scissors.
Just because something is “safer” doesn’t mean its better. Only by overemphasizing “safety” were they able to make their hollow claim that an improvement was going to result from the proposed changes. They would have us believe that removing the ability to pass another car for 1.7 miles coming through town will somehow make Hwy 34 better.
Imagine your future delight when heading west and you get to slam on your brakes and wait for a car turning into the pharmacy because going around is no longer allowed. Trust them, you will be totally overjoyed with their upgrades.
Don’t insult our intelligence by pretending that this project is being done in this way to secure an improvement. Reading between the lines, the article made me wonder if this is a play to skirt costs the town would incur if we kept our four lanes. From the description in the paper, it sounds like we would still have the same amount of pavement, but it would get a lousy paint scheme that makes it much less versatile.
Join me in asking City Hall to disclose the real reason they are so enthusiastically cheerleading for plastic kindergarten scissors. Maybe we can still save ourselves from their “upgrades.”
Dwayne Juzyk,
Aurora
