New information can typically only be gained by trying new things and the On-farm Research Network has found a way to support farmers looking for personalized studies.
Coordinator and Extension educator, Laura Thompson explained that their goal is to provide a statewide venue for producers and agronomists to be able to conduct research on their own operations.
This lets farmers select topics that are of importance to them and that impact their productivity, profitability and the long-term sustainability of their operation.
“We have some projects that we have outlined how the project would look and ask farmers if they’d like to participate,” she explained. “We also have farmers who have an idea, maybe they’ve talked to a neighbor or read something in a magazine. They have some product or practice that they want to try.”
