Huskies nearly upset Crusaders

Sometimes revenge is a sweet deal on the day just before Valentine’s Day.
Aurora indeed got payback against Crete on the road Friday night by the score of 52-50, the same exact score the Cardinals defeated the Huskies by back on Jan. 31 in the conference tournament.

Aurora comes back to beat Crete

Aurora turned the tables against Crete Friday night on the road, rallying in the fourth quarter for an impressive 62-56 victory and getting payback for a loss to the Lady Cardinals during the Central Conference Tournament.
On Saturday at Hastings, the girls nearly came back from a 30-16 halftime deficit but lost 52-49.

Hampton girls beat Giltner for 2nd time this season

In the first meeting between the No. 8 Hampton Lady Hawks and the No. 9 Giltner Lady Hornets, it took overtime for Hampton to come away with a win and its first Crossroads Conference championship since 1990.

Giltner Hornets improve to 12-9 with win over struggling Hawks

The Giltner boys basketball team had its way with a struggling Hampton Hawks squad Friday, winning 57-27.
The Hawks had major issues trying to break the press of the swarming Hornets, who forced 22 turnovers in the game.

Giltner's Hoelck enjoys time in Laramie

Giltner athlete Corey Hoelck attended Wyoming’s junior day Saturday and was impressed with what Laramie had to offer.
Hoelck was invited to the event by the Cowboys’ coaching staff after watching his film.
Scott Fuchs, Wyoming’s offensive line coach, has been in contact with Hoelck through Twitter and was one of the coaches who showed him and the rest of the recruits around campus.
“He’s just a really nice guy,” Hoelck said of Fuchs. “He seems like he really cares about us.”
At 6-3 and 252 pounds, Hoelck is projected as either an offensive or defensive lineman or tight end.
As a junior, Hoelck was named honorable mention all-state while starting on the offensive and defensive line for the 8-man Hornets, racking up 85 tackles on the season with one sack.
As a sophomore, he was named all-state while accounting for 77 tackles and two sacks.

Allen’s 3-pointer sends game into OT, propels it to win over Waverly

Aurora simply refused to lose.
Before a packed house at the Sports Complex Friday night, sophomore Austin Allen grabbed a rebound, dribbled out to the left corner and launched a 3-pointer that swished through the net to send the game with Waverly into overtime.

Aurora girls fall victim to Waverly, Lexington

Junior Brianna Boender proved to be a forced inside the paint Friday night, scoring 17 points to lead Waverly to a 50-42 win over Aurora at the Sports Complex.
Saturday at Lexington, Hannah Ostrom went off for 32 points as the Minutemaids won by the score of 57-29.
