Soren J. Thomsen

Soren J. Thomsen, the son of Chris and Inger (Jensen) Thomsen, was born  on Feb. 16,  1921, in Bostwick. He died on July 19, 2017, at Brodstone  Memorial Hospital in Superior,  at the age of 96 years, five  months and three days.
Soren attended rural Pleasant  Ridge School and graduated  from Superior High School. He was a member of Salem  Lutheran Church since 1965.  He  was baptized and confirmed  at Bethal Lutheran Church.   He entered the United States 3rd  Air Force on Sept. 30, 1942, serving during WWII  as  an  aircraft mechanic.  He  was  honorably discharged on Oct. 31, 1945.
He  was  united  in  marriage  to  Grace  Keith  on  Nov.  25,  1943,  at  Lincoln. This union was blessed with two children, Linda  and  Burton.  She  preceded  him  in  death  on Feb.  19,  1995.  Soren  married  Rosemarie  “Rhea”  Brown  Kulek  on Jan.  5,  1996.
Soren farmed  for 41  years  before retiring.


Luann Sundberg

Luann Sundberg of Omaha passed away Aug. 23, 2017. She was born Oct. 1, 1953.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, August 26 at 4 p.m. at the Bel Air Chapel, 12100 W. Center Rd., Omaha, with family receiving friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the chapel.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
Heafey-Hoffmann-Dworak-Cutler are handling the arrangements.
Luann was preceded in death by father, Lester Davis; brothers, Bob and Rick Davis.
She is survived by husband, Roger; daughters, Keena Bauer (Chuck) and Katie Vaughn (Luke); grandchildren, Audrey and Mallorie; mother, Burdette Davis; sisters, Sherry Jacobsen (Steve) and Becky Shaw (Pat); brother, Jack Davis (Emmie) and many other loving family members.


Dale Gene Ruebsamen

Dale Gene Ruebsamen, a former Giltner resident, passed away at his home in Huntington Beach, Calif., Monday, Aug. 14. He was born Oct. 3, 1927 to Dean and Alberta (Dawson) Ruebsamen on the family farm. He grew up in Hamilton County and graduated from Giltner High School in 1945.
He attended the University of Nebraska where he earned a commission in the U.S. Army.
He served two tours of duty in Korea and three tours in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot.
After retiring from the military he was a relator and broker in California where he made his home.
He is survived by his wife Gina; three children Derwin, Gene and Dennis; three grandchildren; two brothers Neil and Wilbur; and sister Merna Valen.
He was preceded in death by brothers Darrell, Marvin; sister Beverly Ott; and parents Dean and Alberta.
Funeral services will be held in California Saturday, Aug. 26.


Morris McCollum

On Thursday, July 13, 2017 at 12:58 a.m. Morris McCollum, age 90, passed away peacefully at his home in Fife, WA surrounded by his loving family and longtime friend and caregiver, Phyliss Satterwhite.  He had suffered from a blood clot in his left arm.  He is survived by his stepson Jeff Macaluso and his wife Laura, Pamela Macaluso and her husband, Chris McCormick, and Brian Macaluso and his wife Maria. His deceased brother Earl’s children Nathan, Neal and Nelson McCollum also survive him. His beloved dog, Maxie, was at his side when he passed.
Morris was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Hedlund McCollum Russell in 1995, his beloved partner of 35 years, Patricia Macaluso in 2012, and his step brother, Earl Jr. in 2014.


Steve Clement

Steve Clement, age 90, of Aurora, passed away on August 2, 2017, at Memorial Community Care.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 5 at Higby-McQuiston Chapel.  Pastor Paul Nauman will officiate.  Inurnment will take place at a later time.  Memorials may be made to the family to designate at a later time.  Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at
Steven L. Clement, the son of Hugh Hurley and Maude (Milligan) Clement, was born in North Loup, on January 21, 1927 and passed away in Aurora, on August 2, 2017, at the age of 90.
Steve grew up in North Loup and graduated from North Loup High School.


Ervin Bamesberger

Ervin Bamesberger, age 94, of Aurora, passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at Memorial Community Care in Aurora.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 5 at the Evangelical Covenant Church, 1009 1st Street, in Aurora. Rev. Karl Larson and Rev. Jim Garfield will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Higby-McQuiston Mortuary.  Memorials may be made to the Evangelical Covenant Church or Lester S. Ervin Bamesberger, the son of William Frederick and Ruby Agnes (Salmon) Bamesberger was born on July 30, 1923 at Aurora, and passed away in Aurora, on August 2, 2017, at the age of 94.


Ardis "Ardy" Wiese

Ardis “Ardy” Wiese, age 82, of Doniphan passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Grand Island. Reverend Bill Pavuk will officiate.  Burial will be held at West Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at All Faiths Funeral Home.
Ardis was born in Hardy, on May 20, 1935 to Art and Ethel (Wilson) Nelson. The family moved to a farm south of Alda in 1937. Ardis attended District 6 grade school where she met the love of her life, Ronald, in the 3rd grade. Ardis graduated from Wood River High School in 1953. After graduation, Ardis worked for the Hall County Superintendent’s office.
On November 8th, 1955, Ardis and Ronald J. Wiese were married at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Grand Island. They made their home in Grand Island before moving to an acreage northeast of Doniphan in 1970.


Henry Nelsen

Henry Nelsen, long-time resident of Madris, Ore.,  passed away on July 20, 2017 at 91 years of age in Fallon, Nev. He was born on April 26, 1926 in Hampton. Henry worked the family farm until being called to duty in World War II. After the war, Henry moved to Portland, Ore. where he started his family and a life long career in sales, retiring at the age of 89. Henry will be remembered for his can-do attitude and sense of humor by family and  friends. His kindness and thoughtful nature will be missed.
Henry was preceded in death by his long-time companion, Peggy Gertz, and daughter, Becky Nelsen.
He is survived by his son, Michael, daughter-in-law, Michelle, and grandchildren, Lisa and Eric. Private services will be held at a later date by the family. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.


Deryle J. Eastman

Deryle J. Eastman, 83, of Giltner passed away with his family by his side on Friday, July 28, 2017 at his home.
Gathering of friends and family will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in the Sanctuary.
Celebration of Life Services will be on Thursday, Aug. 3, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church. Pastor Carl Eliason will officiate. Military honors will be rendered by the Veteran’s Honor Guard and U.S. Army Honor Guard.
All Faiths funeral home is serving the family.
Deryle was born on June 20, 1934 in Doniphan, son of Elmer and Mable (West) Eastman.


Gip Barnell

Gip Barnell, age 91, of Aurora, passed away Thursday, July 27, 2017, at Memorial Hospital.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 3 at the Presbyterian U.C.C.  Rev. Bruce Bradley will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Presbyterian U.C.C., 930 K Street, Aurora. Gilbert ‘Gip’ George Barnell, the son of George and Anna T. (Anderson) Barnell, was born in Sutton, on May 14, 1926, and passed away in Aurora, on July 27, 2017, at the age of 91.
