Clayton Kauffman

Clayton Kauffman, 75, of Grand Island, died Friday, Sept. 5, 2014, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at the Aurora United Methodist Church.  Pastor Mary Scott officiated. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation was Monday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com. Clayton Leon Kauffman, the son of Wesley Blaine and Helga Marie (Andersen) Kauffman, was born in Marquette, on April 5, 1939.

Rodney Johnson

Rodney Johnson, 77, of Phillips, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014, at Memorial Hospital in Aurora.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 10 at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Mahlon Richardson will officiate. Burial will be in the Phillips Cemetery. Rodney Alden Johnson, the son of Raymond and Dorthy (Lewis) Johnson, was born at Inavale, on Aug. 19, 1937.
 Rodney moved to various towns growing up. He graduated from Campbell High School.
 Following his graduation, he served his country in the United States Army. Following his discharge, he worked various jobs before starting to farm with his brother and uncle in the early 1960s.

Ed Wilkins

Ed Wilkins, age 85, of Aurora, passed away Monday, September 1, 2014, at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, September 4 at the Aurora United Methodist Church.  Refreshments will be served at the church immediately following the service.  Private family interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m.. with the family available from 5-6 p.m. Wednesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora.  Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
Edward Carlyle Wilkins, the son of Lyal and Helen M. (Macek) Wilkins, was born at the family ranch in Cherry County, Nebraska on June 10, 1929 and passed away in Grand Island, on September 1, 2014, at the age of 85.

Dennis Powell

Dennis Powell, 70, of Ogallala, died Tuesday, August 19, 2014, in Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Dennis was born June 25, 1944 in Grant, the son of Sterling and Ella Mae (maiden name: Ray) Powell. He graduated from Grant High School in 1962.
Dennis attended McCook Junior College for a year and a half. In 1964 he married his high school sweetheart Karen S. Ronneker at Zion Lutheran Church in Grant. On July 26, 2014, they celebrated fifty years of marriage. The couple made their home in Imperial and Dennis was employed at the family business Powell Motors. The business was sold in 1981 and then they purchased Broadway Liquor Store in Imperial.
In the summer of 1989 the couple moved to Ogallala where Dennis was employed as a salesman for Schmidt Motors. In 1991 Dennis began work with Hipp Wholesale Distributing. He then worked for Cash Wa Distributing from 2002 until retiring in 2011.

Joan F. Veleba

Sutton resident Joan F. Veleba, 73, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at the Ambassador in Lincoln.
The rosary will be at 7:30 p.m., Friday, August 29, 2014, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sutton.  Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 30, 2014, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father William Holoubek officiating.  Private family inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery near Sutton.  No visitation will be held cremation has taken place.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date.

Norene Wiarda

Norene Wiarda, age 72, of Hampton, passed away Friday, August 22, 2014, at Memorial Hospital in Aurora.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, August 27th at Pleasant View Bible Church in Aurora. Rev. Bob Gannon will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5 – 7 P.M. Norene Cozette Wiarda, the daughter of Russell and Irene (Korth) LaRue, was born at Hampton, Iowa on May 3, 1942 and passed away in Aurora, Nebraska on August 22, 2014 at the age of 72.

Norene grew up in Franklin County, Iowa and graduated from Franklin Consolidated High School.  She then attended Mason City Junior College for one year.

Everett Heiser

Everett Heiser, 88, of Aurora, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at the Henderson Care Center.
Funeral services were held Aug. 19 at the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson.  Pastor Jim Voth officiated. Private family burial was in the Aurora Cemetery. Everett Adam Heiser, the son of Adam and Margaret (Heiser) Heiser, was born in Aurora, on Aug. 15, 1926.
 Everett grew up in Stockham and attended school through the 8th grade. He then began farming on the family farm.
 He was united in marriage to Nina Friesen in Henderson,  on Aug. 18, 1950. Following their marriage they farmed in the Aurora area until his retirement. He then worked for the Aurora Post Office and the FSA Office for many years.
He was a member of the Bethesda Mennonite Church.

Billy Dean Schultz

Billy Schultz, 74, of Central City, formerly of Aurora, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014, at the Central City Care Center.
A public visitation was held at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Rev. Maylon Richardson officated. Burial will be in the Phillips Cemetery. Billy (Bill) Dean Schultz, the son of Albert and Pearl (Elwick) Schultz, was born in Doniphan, Nebraska, on June 18, 1940.
He grew up in the Doniphan, Giltner and Phillips areas and attended school in those communities. He graduated from Phillips High School with the class of 1957.

Shirley Krabiel

Shirley Krabiel, 84, of Aurora, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2014, at the Hamilton Manor.

 Shirley Ann Krabiel, the daughter of Clifford and Iva (Stewart) Cramer, was born in Polk, on Dec. 22, 1929. She grew up in Polk and graduated from Polk High School.
