Norma Hutsell

Norma Hutsell, age 84, formerly of Aurora, passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at Gold Crest Retirement Center in Adams.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, September 18 at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Aurora.  Rev. Sarah Ruch will officiate.  Inurnment will be at the Aurora Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gold Crest Retirement Center, 200 Levi Lane, Adams, NE 68031.  Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
Norma Jean Hutsell, the daughter of David and Anne (Tessman) Friesen was born at Henderson, on November 23, 1932 and passed away in Adams, on September 13, 2017, at the age of 84.
Norma grew up in Henderson and graduated from Hampton High School.

Roger Smith

Roger Smith, age 52, of Avinger, Texas, formerly of Aurora, passed away on, July 28, 2017 at his home.
A Family and Friends gathering will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, September 22 at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora.  Inurnment will be in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Kronborg at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 23.  Memorials may be made to the family to designate at a later date.  Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
Roger Lee Smith, the son of Mark and Emma Jean (Hallbauer) Smith, was born at Fredonia, Kans. on December 5, 1964 and passed away on July 28, 2017 at the age of 52.
He graduated from Fredonia High School and worked as a meat cutter.  Roger was united in marriage to Christine Pacaj on May 7, 1994 in Aurora, Nebraska.
Roger moved to Texas to be closer to his mother due to the passing of his step-father.

Irene (Nielsen) Hahn

Irene (Nielsen) Hahn, 84, of Central City, died Monday, September 11, 2017 at Bryan Medical Center-West in Lincoln.  Funeral services will be Friday, September 15 at 2 p.m. at Heartland Evangelical Free Church in Central City with Pastors Zeke Pipher and Scott Johnson officiating.  Visitation will be Thursday, September 14 from 5-7 p.m. at Heartland Evangelical Free Church.  Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery immediately following the funeral service.

Pam Franks

Pam Franks, 66, of Aurora, died August 16, 2017. Pam was born Sept. 30, 1950 to Ray and Betty Franks in Dighton, KS. She graduated from Dighton High School in 1968.
Pam moved to Colorado in 1970, where she lived most of her life. After retiring in 2012 she moved to Nebraska.
Pam mastered and enjoyed many hobbies, including fishing, hunting, country dancing, softball, sewing, crocheting, cooking, gardening and canning. She was also a successful small business owner.
Pam is survived by her daughter Sandra Tracey, grandson Devon Ross, both of Loveland, CO, granddaughter Sera Visconti of Greeley, CO; sisters, Mary Lou Franks of Edgewood, NM; Anita (Mark) Edwards of Woodland Park, CO; Jenny (Art) Arenholz of Aurora, CO; Natalie (Ken) of Albuquerque, NM; brothers Gene Franks of Palmer, AK; Jim Franks of Marshall, AR; many nieces and nephews and dear friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved brother Randy Franks.

Dorothy MIller

Dorothy Miller, age 93, of Lincoln, formerly of Aurora, passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at The Independence House-Northview in Lincoln.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 13 at the Aurora United Methodist Church.  Rev. John Cates

John Cates, age 73, of Giltner, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017 at home.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 6 at the United Methodist Church of Giltner.  Pastor Kathy Uldrich will officiate. Private family inurnment will be in the Giltner Cemetery. Visitation and Viewing will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, 418 N. Derby Ave. Giltner. John W. Cates, the son of Carlos “C.W.” Warren and Betty Rilene (Morgan) Cates, was born in Cushing, Okla. on May 27, 1944 and passed away in Giltner, on Aug. 31, 2017, at the age of 73.

Cheryl Dowty, age 72, of Aurora, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017, at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island.

Doniphan resident, Leonard J. Consbruck, 89, passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2017, surrounded by his family at Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings.      
Rosary will be Sunday, September 3, 2017 at 7 p.m. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings.  Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, September 4, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Giltner with Father Loras Grell and Father Dennis Hunt officiating.  Burial with military rites by Doniphan American Legion #300 will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Giltner.  Memorials may be given to Leonard J. Consbruck Memorial Fund.  Visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017 from 1-8 p.m. at the funeral home with family present from 5-7 p.m., and one hour prior to service at the church on Monday.  Private condolences may be sent to the family at www.lbvfh.com.  Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home & Cremation Center is serving the family.

Gladys Marie Anderson

Gladys Marie Anderson, 84, of Grand Island, formerly of Hordville, died Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Bickford Senior Living in Grand Island.  Funeral services will be Monday, August 28, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Solt-Wagner Funeral Home in Central City with Pastor Jay Towell officiating.  Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time on Monday.  Burial will be in the Hordville Cemetery.
Gladys was born on December 2, 1932 to Vigo and Wilma (Watkins) Jensen in Merrick County.  She grew up in the Merrick County and Central City area attending school at Central City Public.  Gladys graduated high school in 1950.  She married Richard A. (Dick) Anderson on March 8, 1953 in Central City.  The couple lived a short time in Ralston, before making their home in Hordville in 1959.  After Dick’s passing in 2006, Gladys lived at East Park Villa in Aurora and then Bickford Senior Living in Grand Island.

Soren J. Thomsen

Soren J. Thomsen, the son of Chris and Inger (Jensen) Thomsen, was born  on Feb. 16,  1921, in Bostwick. He died on July 19, 2017, at Brodstone  Memorial Hospital in Superior,  at the age of 96 years, five  months and three days.
Soren attended rural Pleasant  Ridge School and graduated  from Superior High School. He was a member of Salem  Lutheran Church since 1965.  He  was baptized and confirmed  at Bethal Lutheran Church.   He entered the United States 3rd  Air Force on Sept. 30, 1942, serving during WWII  as  an  aircraft mechanic.  He  was  honorably discharged on Oct. 31, 1945.
He  was  united  in  marriage  to  Grace  Keith  on  Nov.  25,  1943,  at  Lincoln. This union was blessed with two children, Linda  and  Burton.  She  preceded  him  in  death  on Feb.  19,  1995.  Soren  married  Rosemarie  “Rhea”  Brown  Kulek  on Jan.  5,  1996.
Soren farmed  for 41  years  before retiring.
