Edith Scott

Edith Scott, age 85, of Aurora, passed away Monday, January 8, 2018, at the Westfield Quality Care in Aurora.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 20 at Evangelical Covenant Church.  Rev. Karl Larson will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. Edith LaVonne Scott, the daughter of Carlton and Miriam (Hagelin) Kemper, was born at Pomona, California on December 24, 1932 and passed away at Aurora, on January 8, 2018, at the age of 85.

Kirk Goertzen

Kirk Bradley Goertzen, age 60, of Hampton, died Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at York. He was born on July 5, 1957 to Johnny and Donna (Blackburn) Goertzen in York. He was baptized on July 28, 1963 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Snyder, and later confirmed on May 21, 1972 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, York. He was a 1975 graduate of York High School. Kirk was united in marriage to Sharon Roehrs on April 23, 1977 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York. This union was blessed with the birth of three children, two sons, and one daughter.
He worked at the following places during his adult life: York State Bank in York, First Federal Savings and Loan in Aurora, Farmers State Bank, later Pinnacle Bank in Aurora, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, and Northwestern Mutual in York.

Babe Luthy, age 73, of Phillips, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at CHI Health-St. Francis in Grand Island with her family by her side.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 13 at the Aurora United Methodist Church.  Rev. Ron Harris and Rev. Karla Sheffy will officiate.  Interment will be in the Phillips Cemetery at 2 p.m..  Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at United Methodist Church, 1104 A Street, Aurora.  Memorials may be made to the family to designate at a later date.  Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Doretha ‘Babe’ Luthy, the daughter of Floyd Maret and Cora (Thayer) Maret Jacobsen, was born at Hendley, on January 17, 1944, and passed away at Grand Island, on January 9, 2018, at the age of 73.

Margaret Johnson, age 91, of Aurora, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2018, at Memorial Community Care.
Funeral Services will be held at at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 11 at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Aurora. Pastor Bruce Bradley will officiate. Margaret Ann (Carnes) Johnson, daughter of Lloyd and Mable (Silvernail) Carnes, was born on May 5, 1926, in Hamilton County, and passed away on January 7, 2018 at Aurora, at the age of 91.
Margaret was raised and educated in Aurora, graduating from Aurora High School in 1944.

Marvel A. Mapes

Marvel A. Mapes, age 91, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on January 7, 2018 at Oak Park Place, Madison.  She was raised as a Nebraska farm girl, born February 28, 1926, in Marquette, the daughter of Milton J. and Edna T. (Sands) Peterson.   She attended High School and college in Nebraska.  She met the love of her life, Leonard Mapes, in 1946, and after 5 ½ weeks of courtship, they were married on February 23, 1946.  Leonard enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and they were stationed in numerous locations in the U.S. and Europe.  They settled in Madison in 1962, where they made their home.

Cleta Alberts, age 92, formerly of Hampton and Aurora, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2018, at Memorial Community Care.

Cleta Marian Alberts, the daughter of Harold and Eunice (Jensen) Hunter, was born at Omaha, on October 17, 1925 and passed away at Aurora, on January 6, 2018, at the age of 92.
She grew up in Omaha and graduated from Omaha Central High School, where her granddaughter, Molly, currently teaches.

Sharlis Hahn, age 67, formerly of Hampton, passed away Friday, January 5, 2018, at Tiffany Square in Grand Island with her family by her side.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 10 at Zion Lutheran Church northeast of Hampton. Rev. David Feddern will officiate.  Interment will be at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation with family will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora.  Memorials may be made to the family to designate at a later date. Sharlis Mae Hahn, the daughter of Raymond and Irene (Grigsby) Budnick, was born at Aurora, on June 3, 1950 and passed away in Grand Island, on January 5, 2018, at the age of 67.
She grew up and graduated from Hampton High School.

Patricia Ann Bowman

Patricia Ann Bowman, of Bruning, age 98 years, 8 months, 13 days, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Heritage Care Center in Fairbury.  Pat was born to Ray and Lena (Doty) at home in Belvidere, April 17, 1919.  She graduated from Belvidere High School in 1937.  Pat worked at Gold’s Department Store in Lincoln after high school, at an aircraft defense plant assembly plant and as an operator in Los Angeles.  Later she was assigned to Lincoln Western Electric assembling telephones.  After marriage, Pat worked at the Bruning Drug store and as a postal clerk in the Bruning Post Office until she became the postmaster 1978-1990.
Pat married Lorin Bowman on February 18, 1948 in Lincoln.  She was baptized, confirmed and became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church that year.

Donald Troester, age 92, of Aurora, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at the Hamilton Manor.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 6 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hampton. Rev. Jim Gruber will officiate.  Interment will be at Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation with family will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 381 H Street, Hampton.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church or Hampton Lutheran School. Donald William Troester, the son of William C. and Anna (Bamesberger) Troester, was born on the family farm in Hamilton County, on Sept. 27, 1925 and passed away in Aurora, on Jan. 2, 2018, at the age of 92.
