Marcia Friedrichsen, age 84, formerly of Aurora, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at the Orchard Garden in Valley.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Aurora.  Rev.  Sarah Ruch will officiate.  Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Messiah Lutheran Church, 415 South 18th Street, Aurora.  The family requests that you wear Husker attire to the services.  Memorials may be made in care of the family to designate at a later date.  Condolences may be sent to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.

Hampton resident Helen Elaine Pohl, 86, passed away Friday, December 20, 2019, at her home.
A Memorial Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 2 at the chapel of Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Rev. Michelle Reed will officiate. Helen was born July 3, 1933, in Aurora, to Jonathan and Zelma (Main) Reardon. Helen graduated from Aurora High School in 1951. She married Wallace Wayne Pohl on October 28, 1951, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hampton; he preceded her in death on August 17, 2010.

Kent Madsen, age 78, of Aurora, passed away on December 22, 2019 at Westfield Quality Care.
Kent’s wishes were to be cremated and the family will receive friends from 5 -7 on Thursday, December 26 at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Kent Milton Madsen, son of Milton R. and Lucille (Taylor) Madsen, was born at Stratton, Nebraska, on April 6, 1941 and passed away at Aurora, on December 22, 2019 at the age of 78.

Ziegelbein, 90, of Aurora, formerly of Polk, died Thursday, December 19, 2019 at Memorial Community Care in Aurora.  Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 23, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Polk with Pastor Dave Ohlman officiating.  Visitation will be Sunday, Dec. 22, 2019 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Solt-Wagner Funeral Home in Polk.  Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

Albert D. Friesen

Albert D. Friesen, age 98, of Henderson, died Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Henderson. He was born May 20, 1921 to Diedrick K. and Anna (Siebert) Friesen in rural Hamilton County. He was baptized on June 1, 1941 by the Reverend A.W. Friesen and joined Bethesda Mennonite Church where he remained a life time member. Albert and Tina Peters were united in marriage on Sept. 1, 1944 and to this marriage 6 children were born: Robert, Vernette, Lyle, Galen, Curtis, and Alton.

Melvin B. Larsen

Melvin was born to Matilda and Ervin Larsen on June 12,1924. Raised with his two brothers, Eugene and Norman, on their family farm in Hampton, he was a vital member of the 1942 Nebraska High School State Championship basketball team. Upon joining the Navy, he was commissioned as an officer in the Civil Engineer Corps at Iowa State University. It was at ISU that he met the love of his life, Darlene Christensen. Mel was a member of the ISU track team, was an All-American long jumper and competed in sprint and hurdle events.
He earned both BS (1946) and MS (1962) degrees in Civil Engineering at ISU.

Georgene May Elge, the daughter of George and May (Hefty) Risden, was born on her family farm near Stockham, August 31, 1932 and passed away surrounded by family in Grand Island, on Dec. 9, 2019, at the age of 87.

Betty Chambers, age 93, of Aurora, formerly of Phillips, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2019 at the CHI-St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 17 at Pleasant View Bible Church in Aurora. Rev. Bob Gannon will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Phillips Cemetery at 10 a.m. prior to the church service. No Visitation. Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Betty Lou Chambers, the daughter of Earl F. and Edna (Harvey) Arnold was born in Phillips, on Nov. 23, 1926 and passed away in Grand Island, on Dec. 13, 2019, at the age of 93.

Betty Start of Dallas Center, Iowa passed away Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019. A memorial service will be held on Dec. 18, 2019 at Spurgeon Manor, Dallas Center, Iowa. Interment  will be in Swanton, Vermont.
Betty was born  Aug. 5, 1925 in Swanton, Vermont to Ray Carleton Kimball and Cora May (Houston) Kimball.
She married  Burdett Henry Start II July 5, 1947 in Swanton, Vermont. Burdett passed away March 31, 2007.
Betty graduated from Swanton High School in 1943, received her Physical Education and Physical Therapy degrees from Boston University.
Following raising her children Betty returned to the University of Nebraska at Omaha to continue her education.  She earned her Special Education degree at UNO and taught for 15 years.

Carl Rhode was born Saturday, August 4, 1917 in Hampton and passed away    Sunday, December 8, 2019 in Lincoln.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 12, 2019 from 2-8 p.m. at Volzke Funeral Home in Seward. Family will greet friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Services will be held Friday, Dec. 13 at 1 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, 919 N. Columbia Ave. in Seward. Pastor David Rempfer will officiate. Interment will be in the Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery in Lincoln. Memorials are in care of the Rhode family.
