Maryann Moravec of David City died Dec. 9, 2014 at Ridgewood Care Center in Seward
The funeral will be held Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014   at 10:00 a.m.
at Immaculate Conception Church, in Ulysses, Nebraska
Officiating will be Fr. Raymond Jansen
Interment will be in the Ulysses Catholic Cemetery
Rosary Services will be held Friday, Dec. 12, 2014  at 7 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Ulysses.
Maryann was born Sept. 1, 1922 on the farm near David City (Yanka) to Frank J. Svoboda and Christine Jirovsky.
She married Richard Moravec on May 7, 1947 at Assumption Catholic Church in Appleton.


Evelyn Bedient

Evelyn Bedient, age 92, of Aurora, formerly of Bradshaw, died Monday, December 8, 2014 at Aurora.  She was born May 18, 1922 at St. Anthony, ID to Raymond and Coquella Mason.  Evelyn was united in marriage to Owen L. Bedient on October 12, 1947 in Clarks.  She attended the United Church of Christ in Arborville. She worked at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women for approximately 10 years.   Evelyn served on the York County Fair Board and was a 4-H leader for many years.  She enjoyed attending music festivals, farm auctions and her grandchildren’s activities.  She also enjoyed playing cards, quilting and working in her garden.  


Jack Barton

Jack Barton, 87, of Chapman, died on Sunday, December 7, 2014 at the Veteran’s Hospital in Grand Island.  Funeral services will be Thursday, December 11 at 10:30 a.m. at the chapel of Solt Funeral Home in Central City with Rev. Delano Cunningham officiating.  Visitation will be Wednesday, December 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.  Interment is in the Chapman Cemetery with military honors.  Condolences may be sent to the family at


Melvin Dale Blixt

Melvin Blixt, 90 of Irvine, California, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014. On Nov. 22, a military private graveside service was held followed by a Memorial Church Service.
Mel Blixt, the son of Elmer and Esther Blixt of Aurora was born and raised on a farm northwest of Aurora. He graduated from Aurora High School with the class of 1941. In 1943, during WWII. he entered the Navy  as an Aviation Cadet. He was designated a Naval aviator in 1944. He later served with squadrons  in flying  the SBD Dauntless and SB2C  Helldiver. During a period of inactive duty, he received his flight instructor license and worked  at Elge Airport, Aurora’s first airport, providing student flight instruction and aerial spraying.


Michael Thomas Ochs

Michael Thomas Ochs, 72, passed away, unexpectedly in a car accident on November 26, 2014.  He was born in Wichita Kansas to Martin and Dorothy (Murphy) Ochs on December 19th, 1941.
Michael is survived by his loving wife Mary Jo (Ljunggren) Ochs; sons, Jason (Randi) Ochs; Jeremy (Andrea) Ochs, daughters Julie (Fred DeMaio) and Jennifer Ochs, grandchildren; Steven, Megan, EJ, Matthew, Aidan, Madelynn, Delaney, and Connor, Sisters Judy (Rick) Pauli; Joanie (Jesse) Esparza, and Susan Lear, and grand-dog Parker.
Michael is preceded in death, by his parents Martin and Dorothy Ochs, brother, David Peter Ochs, sister, Kathleen, and son, David Patrick.


LaVera Nickolaus

LaVera Nickolaus, age 89, formerly of Stockham, passed away Monday, November 24, 2014, at Commerce City, Colorado.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, December 1 at the Faith Evangelical Bible Church in Henderson.  Rev. Michael Fink will officiate.  Interment will be in the Stockham Cemetery.  Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. LaVera Mae Nickolaus, the daughter of William F. and Susie L. (Selzer) Kuhnke, was born in Sutton, on January 21, 1925 and passed away in Commerce City, Colorado on November 24, 2014, at the age of 89.
She grew up in Sutton on the family farm and attended school through the 8th grade.


Roger Colburn

Roger Colburn, 69, of Campbell, died November 23, 2014 at his home in Campbell, with family at his side. Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 29, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Giltner, with Father Marneni officiating. Burial of cremains will follow at the Catholic Cemetery in Giltner with military honors provided by the Aurora American Legion. There will be no visitation.
Roger was born November 8, 1945 in Grand Island, to Fay and Helen (Preissler) Colburn. He was raised on a farm near Giltner and graduated from the Giltner High School in 1964. Roger enlisted in the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1967. Roger lived in Colorado for 35 years where he was employed as a truck driver and did home repairs. During that time he married Kathy Lee Tilton. She passed away in 2007. In 2008, Roger met his companion, Nancy Gray. Upon his retirement in 2009, he and Nancy made their home in Campbell.


Shirley A. Wittulski

Shirley A. Wittulski, 71, of Hordville, died Saturday, November 22, 2014 at her home.  Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 26 at 10 a.m. at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City with Reverend Luke Haidle officiating.  Visitation will be Tuesday, November 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.  Burial will be at a later date.
Shirley was born on May 4, 1943 to Joseph and Alice (Koza) Sabata in David City.  She grew up and attended school in the David City area.  
She married Donald “Woody” Wittulski on May 6, 1961 in San Bernardino, CA.  The couple lived in various places including Florida, David City, and finally moving to Hordville, in 1996.  Shirley did various jobs but most importantly helping her husband run their business “Woody’s Barbeque”.
Shirley enjoyed flowers and making and collecting jewelry.  She also enjoyed watching the gem channel.


Ted Norman

Ted Norman, age 75, of Giltner, passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Memorial Hospital in Aurora.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, November 22 at the United Methodist Church in Giltner.  Rev. Mahlon Richardson will officiate.  No Visitation.  Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in charge of arrangements.  Memorials may be made to the family.  Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at
 Warren ‘Ted’ Norman, the son of Willie T. and Mabel (Nissen) Norman was born at Wausa, on March 10, 1939 and passed away on November 18, 2014 at Aurora.
 He grew up at Wausa.  Ted lived in Lincoln for a short time, where he worked at Ford Van Lines.   He also lived in Grand Island for a time before moving to Giltner.  During this time Ted worked for 3-D in Doniphan for many years and then was employed by MFS/York/Stromer in Grand Island since 2000.


Judith (Judy) Moore

Judith (Judy) Moore, age 67, of Marquette, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at Memorial Community Care in Aurora.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 15 at the United Methodist Church in Central City.  Rev. Tess Hufford will officiate. Interment will be in Burke Cemetery north of Central City.  Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Friday at the United Methodist Church, 2601 18 Avenue, Central City.  Memorials may be made in care of the family.  Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.   Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at
Judith (Judy) Lee Moore, the daughter of Albert Ray and Gladys (Nelsen) Grigsby, was born in Aurora, on December 15, 1946 and passed away in Aurora, on November 12, 2014, at the age of 67.
