Willa Mae Burton

Willa Mae Burton, 84, passed away Dec. 24, 2014 with family by her side.
Willa Mae was born July 19, 1930 in Hampton to Herbert and Mary VanHousen. She was the third of seven children.
Willa Mae graduated from Aurora High School in 1948 and on July 9, 1950 she married the love of her live Bob (Bill) Burton. Soon after they married they moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho, then to Twin Falls, Idaho, where they had four children and where she lived for 50 years. Willa Mae moved to Big Sky, Mont. then to Boise, Idaho due to health reasons.
Willa Mae was very active in her church, Immanuel Lutheran Church and Memorial Lutheran School. She was a member of American Legion, Home Extension group and roller skated once a week with a ladies group.
Willa Mae is survived by her daughter Sheila and sons, Van and Billy, nine grandchildren: Callen, Shaun, Jeremy, Rachel, Tory, Stevi, Jordan, Kelsie and Tanner; great-grandson Madx and three siblings, Evelyn, Mavis and Mary.

Shirley Babel

Shirley Babel, age, 88, of Aurora, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 17 at the Aurora United Methodist Church.  Rev. Ron Harris will officiate.  Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary.  Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
Shirley Ann Lindstrom Babel, the daughter of Charles Emil and Loretta (Cunningham) Lindstrom, was born in a farm house near Sacramento, on October 4, 1926, and passed away at Aurora, on January 14, 2015 at the age of 88.
Shirley grew up in the Holdrege area and graduated from Holdrege High School Class of 1945.  One of her first jobs was working at the dime store for 10¢ an hour.

Owen L. Bedient

Owen L. Bedient, age 93, of Aurora, passed away Saturday, January 10, 2015 in Aurora.  He was born June 26, 1921 at Arborville, to Harold and Myrtle (Green) Bedient and was a 1939 graduate of Polk High School.   He joined the Army in 1942 and served in Italy during WWII.  He was discharged in 1947 and later that year was married to Evelyn Mason on October 12, 1947 at Clarks. Owen farmed and raised cattle in the Polk area.  He delivered seed corn and also delivered the Trade & Transactions.  He enjoyed attending music festivals, square dancing, and playing cards and dominos.

Edward Arthur Lovejoy

Edward Arthur Lovejoy, 62, of Hordville, died Friday, January 9, 2015 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.  Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City with Trent Wagner officiating.  Visitation will be Tuesday, January 13, 2015 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.  Burial will be in the Burke Cemetery.

Edward was born on July 24, 1952 to Howard and Ila (Kuhn) Lovejoy in Grand Island.  He grew up in Central City and Paso Robles, California receiving his education in both locations.  Edward entered the United States Army on February 9, 1970 serving during Vietnam.  He was honorably discharged on February 24, 1972.

Edith Virginia Willcock

Hastings resident, Edith Virginia Willcock, 87, passed away Friday, January 2, 2015 in Lincoln.      
Services will be Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 10 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Charles M. Webster officiating.  Burial will be in the Kenesaw Cemetery, Kenesaw.  Visitation will be Thursday, January 8, 2015 from 9 a.m.–5 p.m. and Friday, January 9, 2015 from 9 a.m.–9 p.m. with family present from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church.  Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date.  Private condolences may be sent to the family at www.lbvfh.com.  Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home & Cremation Center is serving the family.

Gene Francis Leininger

A Rosary for Gene Francis Leininger will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, January 10, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sutton. A mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m., following the Rosary. Father William Holoubek will officiate. Burial will be held at the Sutton Catholic Cemetery.
Gene passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at the age of 91.
Gene Francis Leininger was born May 14, 1923 in Clay County, Nebraska to Frederick Daniel and Henrietta Barbara (Lohmeier) Leininger. Following his schooling, Gene enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country during WWII in the Liberation of the Southern Philippines. On September 9, 1947 he married Dona Marie Robare at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sutton, and the couple was blessed with 8 children. Gene enjoyed being outdoors and helping Dona with the vegetable and flower gardens. He was a member of the VFW and liked watching his favorite sports teams and rodeo events in person and on TV.

Charlene Milroy

Charlene Milroy, age 80, of Aurora, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2015, at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 7 at the Chapel of Higby-McQuiston Mortuary.  Pastor Francois Erasmas will officiate.  Interment will be in Aurora Cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.  Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
Charlene Fern Milroy, the daughter of David and Betty May (Barker) Wetzel, was born in North Loup, on April 10, 1934 and passed away in Aurora, on January 3, 2014, at the age of 80.
She grew up in North Loup, where she was from a family of fourteen children.  At a young age their family moved to Grand Island, where Charlene attended school through the 8th grade.

James L. Mason

James L. Mason, age 74, of Hampton, passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at Bryan/LGH East Medical Center in Lincoln.

James LeRoy Mason, the son of John and Mary (Smith) Mason, was born in Clarinda, Iowa on May 26, 1940 and passed away in Lincoln, on December 31, 2014, at the age of 74.
Jim attended school in Iowa, California and Nebraska through the 8th grade and then went to work to help support his family.

John Wiener

John Wiener, age 55, of Aurora, passed away Friday, January 2, 2015, at Memorial Community Care.

John Robert Wiener, the son of John D. and Theresa (Beeson) Wiener, was born in Los Angeles, California on September 2, 1959 and passed away in Aurora, on January 2, 2015, at the age of 55.
John spent several years at the Beatrice State Developmental Center at Nebraska City School for the Blind and Regional V Services.  He moved to Aurora in June of 2009, to be closer to his family.

Gary B. Charlton

Gary B. Charlton, age 77, of York, died Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Lincoln.  He was born December 10, 1937 in York to Blaine and Amanda (Nordmeyer) Charlton.  Following graduation from McCool Jct., High School, Gary joined the National Guard.  He farmed for Howard Wolstenholm for a time before being employed by York County as a heavy equipment operator.  He later became the York county Highway Superintendent of Roads, a position he held until his retirement in 2008.
Gary’s post-retirement years have been spent working for Kaliff Farms and Sahling Kenworth.  He enjoyed baling hay, tending to his horses and working in his shop.  Gary spent many years as a 4-H leader and was a lifetime member of the York Trail Riders.  He enjoyed horse shows, trail rides and camping with his extended family.  Summer vacations for the Charltons was always working horse security at the Nebraska State Fair.
