Joel Bean

Joel Alan Bean, a 1984 graduate of Aurora High School, died suddenly Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018 at CHI Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Joel was a registered nurse working at the Kearney Medical Center  and a 31 year National Guard member enlisting in 1987, serving in Iraq and was currently serving at the rank of 1st Sargent with the 1075 Transportation Company out of North Platte.
Joel was born March 12, 1966 at Cozad, to James L. Bean and Patricia (Coons) Bean. He attended school in Lexington until 1978 when moving to Aurora. He was on the wrestling team, football and track teams. He attended Kearney State College and Central Community College in Grand Island earning a Nursing Degree. He married Stacy Gorr on March 16, 1998 in Kearney. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church.

Betty Mabon

Betty Mabon, age 91, of Grand Island, formerly of Phillips, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at CHI Health-St. Francis in Grand Island.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 12 at the Phillips United Methodist Church. Pastor Joel Warren will officiate. Interment will be in the Phillips Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the Phillips United Methodist Church, 414 3rd Street, Phillips.  Order of the Eastern Star Phillips Chapter #204 ceremony will follow at 7:00. Memorials may be made to the Phillips United Methodist Church or the Eastern Star Phillips Chapter #204. Pat Sheehan

Pat Sheehan, age 66, of Aurora, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2018, at her home.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, March 12 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aurora.  Rev. Loras Grell will officiate.  Interment will be in the St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery northeast of Manley at 2:30 p.m.  Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora, with the Rosary at 7 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hamilton County Cancer Society or the Teammates Program at Aurora Public School.  Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
Patricia Eileen Sheehan, the daughter of John Patrick and Florence (Newham) Sheehan, was born in Nebraska City, on August 21, 1951 and passed away in Aurora, on March 4, 2018, at the age of 66.

Robert Nielsen, age 96, of Aurora, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018, at his home.

Ethel Johansen, age 92, formerly of Marquette, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at Memorial Community Care in Aurora.

Ethel M. Johansen, the daughter of Jens and Viola (Lagoni) Christensen, was born on the family farm near Kronborg, on April 22, 1925 and passed away in Aurora, on February 24, 2018, at the age of 92.

Merle Jones

Merle Jones, 78, of Lincoln, passed away on February 12, 2018. He was born May 21, 1939 to Preston and Altha (Hull) Jones in O’Neill. He was the owner of Jones Appliances for many years as well as a Para for Lincoln Public Schools. Veteran of the United States Army, member of Southwood Lutheran Church, member of the Eagles Club in O’Neill (3644), past president of the Eagles Club Grand Island (4539). He also loved to golf, dance, and was an avid Husker Fan!
Merle is survived by his loving wife Karen; children, Marcy (Tim) Grutsch, Stacia (Rich) Kennedy, Jason (Jenny) Jones; step-children, Reynold (Tammy) Merchant, Frank (Debbie) Merchant, Jennifer (John) Katz, Jessica (Doug Swanson) Nelson, Jeff (Margie) Merchant; 22 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters, Edwina Walter, Jenine Fridley; sister-in-law, Lorene Jones, sister-in-law, Marlene Handquist.

Donna Maurine Wacker

Donna Maurine Wacker (of Edgar) 91 years, passed peacefully at Mary Lanning Health Care, Hastings, February 11, 2018 from complications of Alzheimer’s. Donna was born February 2, 1927, on the family farm near Otego, KS in Jewell County to Philip Norman and Lona Irene (Black) Underwood.
Left to cherish her memory are her children and spouses: David L. Wacker Sr. and Polly, Linda and Micheal Nuss and Martha Wacker; grandchildren: Andrea Nuss Davenport, Stacy and Rustin Riley, Natalie and Derek Meyers and David Wacker Jr.; great-grandchildren: Samuel, Alexis and Jonathan Davenport, Mason, Carter and Everhett Riley, and Darin Meyers; sisters-in-law Donna Allen Underwood and Carol Nash Underwood; special friend and caregiver Carol Appleby, caregivers Ellie Clark and Dennis Nevin.

Wayne Rennau

Wayne Rennau, 82, of Alda, died on February 9, 2018 at Good Samaritan Village in Grand Island.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday February 14, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church with the Reverend Mike Reiners officiating. Interment will be in the Aurora cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday February 13 at Peace Lutheran Church.  Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family.
Wayne was born on November 7, 1935 at Aurora, to Claude and Susie (Salmon) Rennau. He grew up in Aurora and graduated from Aurora High School. He was united in marriage to Betty Mader on September 23, 1956. They farmed at Phillips for a year before moving to the farm south of Alda where they lived for 54 years, before moving to Grand Island in 2012.
Wayne’s love of farming began as a young boy working on his Uncle’s farm near Stockham. He spent his entire working life raising crops and cattle.

Tom D. Rodabaugh

Tom D. Rodabaugh, 67, of rural Marquette died Thursday, February 8, 2018 with his loving family at his side at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Celebration of life service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 17 at All Faiths Funeral Home, Grand Island.  Daniel Naranjo will officiate.  Casual dress is requested.  To honor Tom’s wishes cremation has taken place.
There will be a gathering of family and friends from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home.
Tom was born January 22, 1951 at Grand Island, the son of Emery and Phyllis (Grotzky) Rodabaugh.  He graduated from Grand Island Northwest High School class of 1969.  Following high school, he received his Bachelor’s degree from Kearney State College.
Tom married Joni Perrett and to this union were born a son, John and daughter, Billie.  On July 5, 1997 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Vickie Montgomery.

Barbara M. Handrup, age 88, of Aurora, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2018, at Bryan/LGH Medical Center West in Lincoln.

Barbara Mae Handrup, the sixth child of Thomas S. and Clara Marie (Rasmussen) Hermansen, was born at Dannebrog, on June 13, 1929 and passed away in Lincoln, on February 8, 2018 at the age of 88.
