June Johnson, age 99, of Aurora, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2017, at Memorial Community Care.
 Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 5 at the Chapel of Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora.  Rev. Ron Harris will officiate.  Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Thursday. June Marie Johnson, the daughter of Ralph and Myrtle (Dean) Spry, was born in Beaver Crossing, on September 9, 1917 and passed away in Aurora, on January 1, 2017, at the age of 99.
 She grew up in Columbus and at age 10 her family moved to Aurora.  June graduated from Aurora High School and attended business college in Lincoln.

Joan Moderow, age 80, of Aurora, passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2016, at York General Hearthstone.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 3 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Central City.  Rev. Kevin McReynolds will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery at 2 p.m. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora.  Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.  Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
Joan Maxine Moderow, the daughter of Earnest Alfred and Elsie Vandaily (Clark) Carman, was born in Red Oak, Iowa, on December 9, 1936, and passed away in York, on December 29, 2016, at the age of 80.
She was raised on Prairie Island and Central City, where she completed her schooling.

Lisa Miller Bowker

Lisa Miller Bowker, 51, of Sidney, died Dec. 18, 2016 at Signey Regional Medical Center.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Dec. 22, 2016 at Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney. Presiding was Pastor James Heithoff of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include: her husband, James, three children: Jessica De Funiak of Springs, Fla; Justin and Kelsey Hoyt of Omaha and Jameson of the home; parents Galen and Ski Miller of Aurora; brothers Michael Miller of Lincoln and Christopher Miller of Taipai, Taiwan and a large extended family and many friends.

Fern Nilson, age 92, of Aurora, passed away Friday, December 23, 2016, at the Mary Lanning Medical Center in Hastings.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 28 at Pleasant View Bible Church in Aurora.   Rev. Bob Gannon and Rev. Paul Nauman will officiate. Fern Loree Nilson, the daughter of Gustaf and Hazel (Wollam) Miller, was born at Stratton, on June 29, 1924, and passed away at Hastings, on December 23, 2016, at the age of 92.

Maxine Marie Hutsell, the daughter of Clarence and Paula Heiden, was born on a farm east of Benedict, on July 22, 1934, and passed away at Kearney, on December 22, 2016, at the age of 82.

Grant William Winfield, baby son of Brent and Andrea (Thiessen) Winfield, was born at rest on Saturday, December 24, 2016 in Grand Island, Nebraska.

Ruben D. Friesen

Ruben D. Friesen, age 90 of Henderson, passed away Monday, December 19, 2016 at Henderson.  He was born May 31, 1926 in rural Hamilton County Nebraska to Dietrick K. and Anna (Siebert) Friesen.  Ruben and Lorene A. Kroeker were united in marriage on December 6, 1950 at Henderson.  The union was blessed with four daughters: Joyce, Dorothy, Kathy, and Joann. Ruben was a lifelong farmer in Hamilton County.  He was a member of the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson.  Ruben and Lorene loved to travel and had visited Canada and all 50 states.  Family was important to Ruben and he enjoyed being surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Brylon Lee Phillips

Brylon Lee Phillips, infant son of Jody and Rebecca Phillips of Fremont, passed away Dec. 8, 2016 at Omaha. He was born Sept. 23, 2016 in Omaha. A memorial service was held Dec. 13, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Fremont with Pastor Stephanie Tollefson officiating. Memorials will be directed by the family.
 Brylon is survived by his parents, Jody and Rebecca Phillips; siblings Cayden, Chase, Keelan, Delainey, Kyson, Maylynn and Aubriella Phillips, all of Fremont; grandparents Dean and Marcy Janssen of Omaha; Robert and Donna Phillips of Aurora and many more loving relatives.

Selma (Siebert) Goertzen

Selma (Siebert) Goertzen, age 92, of Henderson, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Henderson. She was born November 12, 1924 to John P. and Elizabeth (Friesen) Siebert at rural Lushton.  On November 19, 1943, Selma was united in marriage to Aaron C. Goertzen at Henderson. To this union five children were born: Ardean, Roger, Doris, Leroy, and Bryan.
Selma will be remembered as a woman full of life and energy. She was an extremely hard worker and devoted her life to taking care of her family and others. Selma loved flowers and gardening, embroidering, and reading.  She enjoyed baking, cooking, and delivering food to others, especially chow mein. Selma was a member of the Henderson Healthcare Auxiliary and a member of Countryside Bible Church, Hampton.
