Bonita L. "Bunny" Paup

Bonita L. “Bunny” Paup, 71, of Grand Island, died Thursday, April 07, 2016 at home.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Grand Island with the Reverend Richard Piontkowski officiating.  A time of fellowship will follow at Cathedral Square.  The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Monday, April 11, 2016 at the Apfel Funeral Home with the rosary to be recited at 7 p.m.    In Lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St Mary’s Cathedral, Grand Island.  Inurnment will be at a later date.   Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family.
Bonita L Paup was born August 8, 1944 in Hartford, CT the daughter of Joseph and Ariel (Roach) Zemak.   She grew up in Hartford, CT, Grand Island and Marquette, graduating from Marquette High School.   She married the love of her life Francis (Frank) Paup on November 4 1967 in Aurora.

Pamela Leak

Pamela Leak, age 69, of Lincoln, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at Bryan/LGH East Medical Center in Lincoln.
 A Private Family Committal Service was held at the Aurora Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the Cat House, P O Box 23145, Lincoln, NE  68542.  Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.  Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
 Johnette Pamela Leak, the daughter of John and Nina (Davis) Hielen, was born in Columbia, South Carolina on July 14, 1946 and passed away in Lincoln, Nebraska on April 6, 2016, at the age of 69.
 Pam grew up in Columbia, South Carolina.  Her family moved to Nebraska in 1950 and in 1956 they moved to Aurora.  Pam graduated from Aurora High School in 1964.   Pam moved to Lincoln and worked for LT&T for 25+ years until her retirement.  She then worked part-time at Target.

Doug Smetter

Douglas Ray Smetter was born in Aurora on February 27, 1968 to Marion "Smitty" Smetter and Joanie (Doremus). He passed away on March 31st 2016 at 4:20.
 
He lived every day as if it were his last and was dedicated to his close friends, who consider themselves direct family.
 
He was preceded in death by both of his parents.
 
Those left to enjoy his memory are his brother, Dallas Ray Smetter (Wilma Jo) of Bayview Texas, a nephew, Reed Justis Smetter in Waco Texas and his friends, especially Ami.
 
Higby-McQuiston Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Cora Lee Ashbaugh

Cora Lee Ashbaugh, age 79 of York, passed away Friday, April 1, 2016 at Utica.  She was born August 16, 1936 near Henderson, to Henry H. and Lucinda (Peter) Epp.  She was baptized at the age of 12 at St. Peter Lutheran Church and later that year was confirmed there as well.  She was presently a member of Faith Lutheran Church in York.   She was united in marriage to Claude Wendell Ashbaugh on October 28, 1955 at Hampton.
 Cora Lee loved to cook, bake, read and take walks.  She was an avid fan of Elvis Presley and his music.  Cora Lee enjoyed all kinds of sports and was a big fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. She enjoyed playing bingo and having morning coffee with her friends at Pump and Pantry.

Norman C. Nelson

Norman C. Nelson, son of Martin and Norma (Andrews) Nelson, formerly of Aurora, passed away Feb. 5, 2016. Norman lived in Simi Valley, Calif. Norman was the grandson of Melkar and Martha (Palmblade) Nelson and Jack and LaViana Andrews of Aurora.
Norman was born Jan. 22, 1943 in Aurora. He was in ill health the last two years.
Norman is survived by his wife Sylvia of 49 years, a daughter Arlene Christensen and her husband Eric Christensen, and a son Matthew Nelson and his wife Rose, two grandchildren, Harley Hanson and Caleb Christensen, all of California and a sister Adriane Kinlock, and three nephews, all of Fort Worth, Texas.

Norman C. Nelson

Pamela Jane McMahon

Pamela Jane McMahon, 63, of Roseville, California passed away March 18, 2016 at Sutter Roseville Health Center, in Roseville California.
Services will be held Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at 10 a.m. at St. Clare Catholic Church, Roseville, California.
Memorials will be decided at a later date in Kansas and Nebraska.
Pam was born November 10, 1952 in Hayes, Kans. to Joe Locker Jr. and Lillian (Weber) Locker.
She was united in marriage to Tom McMahon on January 13, 1973 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellis, Kans.
Pam and her husband Tom made their home in various locations due to his positions with Union Pacific Railroad.  Pam found the best way for her to contribute to each new community they lived was to hone her organizational skills and deep love of numbers.  She served as an administrative assistant to the President of Mid Plains Community College in North Platte, and later as bookkeeper at Blessed Sacrament Catholic School and Parish of Sandy, Utah.

Phyllis Christiansen

Phyllis Christiansen, age 92, of Aurora, formerly of Hampton, passed away Monday, March 21, 2016, at Memorial Community Care.
 Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 24 at the United Lutheran Church in Hampton.  Rev. Howard Rasmussen will officiate.  Interment will be in the Hampton Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora.  Phyllis F. Christiansen, the daughter of Floyd and Pearl E. (Jones) Strolz, was born in Moorefield on December 27, 1923 and passed away in Aurora on March 21, 2016, at the age of 92.
 She grew up in Sutton and graduated from Hampton High School.

Violet June Adele (Bjurlin) Crabtree

Violet June Adele (Bjurlin) Crabtree was born on June 15, 1930 on the family farm near Farwell, Minnesota. She was the second daughter born to Melvin and Rose Bjurlin. The Bjurlins went on to have 5 more children, whom Violet helped to care for throughout her young life.
After graduating from high school, Violet moved to Chicago to begin her college studies at Trinity Bible College. While at Trinity she met Charles Crabtree, also a student, who grew up about 20 miles from Violet. After courting for a year and a half, Violet and Charles were married on July 12,  1952 at Ben Wade Covenant Church in Lowry, Minnesota.

Mildred Sands

Mildred Sands, age 105, of Aurora, passed away on Friday, March 18, 2016 at the Hamilton Manor.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 22 at the Monroe Evangelical Free Church. Rev. Bob Stretch will officiate.  Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Mildred I. Sands, the daughter of Henning and Anna Christinia (Johanson) Carlson, was born at Osceola, on August 22, 1910, and passed away at Aurora, on March 18, 2016, at the age of 105.
