Martha Ruth Friesen

Martha Ruth Friesen, age 89, died on Oct. 24, 2015 with her family at her side at the Henderson Care Center. Martha understood with certainty that after her final breath on earth, her next breath would be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Martha lived her live on earth with the sure knowledge that the Lord’s grace and mercy would be sufficient for her when she died and she would spend eternity with Him. She is with Him now.
Martha was born on July 24, 1926 to Bernhard and Katie (Abrahams) Friesen on the family farm in Hamilton County, Nebraska. She graduated from Henderson High School in May of 1944.
She was a lifelong member of the Bethesda Mennonite Church. She served as a member of the Ladies Mission Circle, Chancel Choir for 40 years, and Bible School Teacher.

Robert W. Friesen

Robert W. Friesen died Oct. 24, 2015 in Henderson at the age of 84.
Graveside service will be held 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2015 at the Bethesda Mennonite Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. at Bethesda Mennonite Church. Memorials may be directed to the MCC Canner or MCC.
Visitation at the mortuary in Henderson will be from 3-9 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday with his family greeting friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday evening. Condolences may be left for the family at www.metzmortuary.com.
Due to construction on Henderson main street, temporary entrance can be found in the alley, adjacent to the park.  
He was born on Aug. 10, 1931 in Holt County to Frank F. and Agatha (Harder) Friesen. During his elementary years the family moved to a farm northwest of Aurora.

Jennifer Lyn Spatz

Hastings resident, Jennifer Lyn Spatz, 21, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2015 due to a motor vehicle accident.  
Rosary will be Sunday, October 25, 2015 at 7 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, October 26, 2015 at 10 a.m. at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, Hastings with Father Joseph M. Walsh officiating.  Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family.  Visitation will be Saturday, October 24, 2015; 1:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M., Sunday, October 25, 2015 from 1-4 p.m. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church.  Private condolences may be sent at www.lbvfh.com.  Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home & Cremation Center is serving the family.

Shirley Beck

Shirley M. Beck, 80, of Central City, died Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Litzenberg Long Term Care in Central City.  Funeral services will be Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Solt-Wagner Funeral Home (south location) with Pastor John Prettyman and  Pastor Courtney Erzkus officiating.  Visitation will be Friday, October 23, 2015 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.  Burial will be in the Bureau Cemetery by Pierce Chapel.

Norma Elaine (Madsen) Kamtz

Norma Elaine (Madsen) Kamtz, the eighth child of Hans and Lydia (Henriksen) Madsen, was born June 16, 1924, in Aurora, and died in Bryan Medical Center October 17, 2015, at the age of 91.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21 at Christ Lutheran Church, 4325 Sumner St. in Lincoln.
 Norma was baptized, confirmed and married at Immanuel Lutheran Church, north of Hampton. The church is now located at Stuhr Museum, Grand Island. Norma has been an active member of Christ Lutheran Church.

Betty Green

Betty Green, age, 89, of Aurora, passed away Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Hamilton Manor.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 21 at the Aurora United Methodist Church.  Rev. Betty M. Green, the daughter of Roy and Lizzie (Zlomke) Wagner, was born at Chapman, on March 18, 1926, and passed away at Aurora, on October 18, 2015 at the age of 89.
Betty grew up on a farm west of Central City.  She graduated from Central City High School in 1943.

Evelyn Mills

Evelyn Mills, age 87, of Aurora, passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at her home.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 9 at the Higby-McQuiston Chapel in Aurora. Rev. Bruce Bradley will officiate. Interment will be in Aurora Cemetery. Evelyn Ruth Mills, the daughter of Frederick and Marie (Grabow) Knoop, was born at Buffalo, in Dawson County on January 25, 1928 and passed away in Aurora, on October 6, 2015, at the age of 87.
Evelyn was baptized and confirmed in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church at Buffalo.  She attended country school and parochial school.  Evelyn graduated from Lexington High School in 1945.  She taught school for one year.

George Hohwieler

George Hohwieler, age, 52, of Aurora, passed away Monday, October 5, 2015 at his home after a three year battle with cancer.
Memorial Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 10 at the Monroe Evangelical Free Church at Phillips.  Pastor Bob Stretch will officiate.  Private Family Graveside Services will be at the Aurora Cemetery.  Family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the Monroe Evangelical Free Church, 1001 W 18 Road, Phillips.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for future designation.  Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.  Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
George Hohwieler, the son of Eldon and Janice (Lessman) Hohwieler, was born in Madison, South Dakota, on January 23, 1963, and passed away on October 5, 2015 at Aurora, at the age of 52.

Wanda Ileene (Davidson) Farrand

Harvard resident, Wanda Ileene (Davidson) Farrand, 84, passed away Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Mary Lanning Memorial Health Care, Hastings.
Services will be Monday, October 5, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the Harvard First United Methodist Church with Rev. Travis King officiating. Burial will be in the Harvard Cemetery. Wanda Ileene Davidson Farrand was born in Webber, KS, on December 21, 1930, to Doshia (Nichols) and Ernest Davidson.  She grew up in a family of seven children.  A baby sister, Darlene, died after the family experienced a bout with scarlet fever in 1934.

Kenneth Schroeder

Kenneth Paul Schroeder, age 70, of Aurora, formerly of Crystal Lake, Illinois passed away Thursday, October 1, 2015 at CHI Health St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date in Crystal Lake, Illinois.  Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.  Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at higbymortuary.com.
 Kenneth Paul Schroeder, the son of Frank and Rose (Wendt) Schroeder, was born in Elgin, Illinois on October 18, 1944 and passed away in Grand Island, on October 1, 2015, at the age of 70.
Kenneth lived for 50 years in Crystal Lake, Illinois.  He moved to Gilbert, Arizona for 10 years before moving to Aurora.
 He touched many lives and will be missed by all that knew him.
 He was preceded in death by his parents.
