Ron Spence

Ron Spence, age 63, of Aurora, passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2016, at CHI Health-Saint Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 11 at United Methodist Church in Aurora. Rev. Mary Scott will officiate.  Inurnment will be at Aurora Cemetery.  No Visitation.  Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.  Memorials may be made in care of the family.  Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.   
Ronald Dean Spence, the son of William ‘Tom’ and Alice (Hrebec) Spence, was born in Grand Island, on April 8, 1953 and passed away in Grand Island, on July 7, 2016, at the age of 63.

Charles "Chuck" James Crabtree

Charles “Chuck” James Crabtree was born August 20, 1930, in Nevis, Minn. He was the second son born to Cecil and Harry Crabtree, his older brother being Gerald. His parents then had a daughter, Lois. Chuck’s father Harry passed away when he was young. Cecil then married Clinton Dosdall, and they had a son, Merton. Gerald, Chuck, Lois and Merton lived with their parents on the family farm in Hancock, Minn.
After graduating from Hancock high school in 1949, Chuck moved to Chicago to begin his college studies at Trinity Bible College. While at Trinity he met Violet Bjurlin, also a student, who grew up about 20 miles from Chuck. After courting Violet for a year and a half, Chuck and Violet were married on July 12, 1952, at Ben Wade Covenant Church in Lowry, Minn. Their first child, Beverly, was born in 1954, with the rest of their children - Brian, Sheldon, Sharlene and Todd - being born over the next ten years.

Alvin D. Ediger

Alvin D. Ediger, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend passed away July 6, 2016 at the age of 79.
 Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 9 at the Evangelical Free Church in Grand Island.  Pastor Dan Brenton and Virgil Ediger will officiate.  There will be no visitation.  A private family grave side service will occur prior to the service.  Al requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family to be designated at a later date.  Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.  Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
 Alvin D. Ediger was born to David K. and Helena (Heinrichs) Ediger, near Henderson, on April 11, 1937 and passed away in Aurora on July 6, 2016, at the age of 79.

Calvin L. Spellman

Calvin L. Spellman, 79 of Phillips passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at CHI- Health St. Francis.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday at 3 p.m. at All Faiths Funeral Home, visitation an hour prior. Dan Naranjo will officiate. Private family burial will take place in Phillips Cemetery at a later date.
Calvin was born on June 11, 1937 at Wood River, eldest son of Herman and Mildred (Oswald) Spellman.
Having grown up in several Nebraskan towns, Calvin graduated from Kearney High School in 1955. Following high school he was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad, traveling to many nearby states. Then he was on the construction crew to build Interstate 80.

Dorothy Reeve

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 27 at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Dorothy Reeve was born July 30, 1922 near Nelson. She was the daughter of Edward and Eva (Bartlett) Rausher. She attended Brown School through the 8th grade. She graduated from Nelson High School in 1940, where she took Normal Training and obtained her teaching certificate. She returned to teach Brown School for five years and one year at Grand Prairie.

Roy Thomas

Roy Thomas, age 85, of Aurora, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at his home.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 22 at the Evangelical Covenant Church. Rev. Karl Larson will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Evangelical Covenant Church, 1009 1st Street in Aurora.  Interment will be in the Tahlequah City Cemetery in Tahlequah, Oklahoma at 10 a.m. Friday, June 24.  Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of Nebraska arrangements and Hart Funeral Home is in charge of Oklahoma arrangements.  Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
Roy Leonard Thomas, the son of Herbert and Tena Susan (Walthall) Thomas, was born April 10, 1931, at Kansas City, Kansas and passed away at Aurora, on June 18, 2016, at the age of 85.

Edwin John Schultz

Ed was one of seven children to Ova and Martha (Rasmussen) Schultz.  He was born August 22, 1922 on the farm near Ruskin.  He passed away on June 16, 2016 at Brodstone Memorial Hospital in Superior, at the age of 93 years, 9 months and 25 days.
Ed graduated from Ruskin High School in 1939.  He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Ruskin.  He was inducted into the United States Marines in 1942, where he was an acting drill instructor and a member of their baseball team.  On January 8, 1950, he was confirmed at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church by Pastor Immanuel Petersen.
He was united in marriage to Bertha Mae Shaw on September 11, 1949 at Nelson, and to this union three children were born:  Teresa, Larry, and Pam.  They enjoyed traveling and camping.

Bonnie Hoffman, age 70, of Hampton, went to heaven on Saturday, June 4, 2016, at Bryan/LGH West in Lincoln.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 8 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York. Rev. Mike Neidow will officiate. Bonnie Jean Hoffman, the daughter of Clarence and Edna (Bolte) Burhoop, was born in York, on June 19, 1945 and passed away in Lincoln, on June 4, 2016, at the age of 70.
She grew up in the Waco area and graduated from Waco High School.

Larry Kenneth Schimmer

Larry Kenneth Schimmer, 77, of Phillips reunited with his family and friends in Heaven on Monday, May 30, 2016.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 4 at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island.  Daniel Naranjo will officiate.  Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Larry was born April 13, 1939 in Phillips to Emil and Irene (Schwieger) Schimmer.  He grew up on the farm, graduating from Phillips High School, class of 1957.  He lived in the Phillips and Marquette area his entire life and felt blessed to have lived his 77 years in Nebraska.
Larry served in the Army National Guard for several years and was honorably discharged on August 31, 1963.

Erin Nicole Rust

Erin Nicole Rust was born on September 8, 1983, in Grand Island, Nebraska to Dennis Joseph Cannon and Phyllis Elaine (Reiling) Cannon.   She passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2016, at her home in Aurora, surrounded by her family at the age of 32 years, 8 months, and 21 days.
Erin spent her childhood years growing up with her two brothers in the community of Friend.  She formed many life-long friendships and memories of her youth. Specific memories that stuck with Erin included serving as a student manager for her dad’s basketball team, countless basketball games in the driveway of the family home, jumping out the tree house into the leaves with her brothers, camping out on the wrap-around porch during rain storms, and riding the go kart that her dad and brothers built. During this time, Erin developed her love of animals, as she was a caretaker to multiple cats that served as family pets.
