Gene Francis Leininger

A Rosary for Gene Francis Leininger will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, January 10, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sutton. A mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m., following the Rosary. Father William Holoubek will officiate. Burial will be held at the Sutton Catholic Cemetery.
Gene passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at the age of 91.
Gene Francis Leininger was born May 14, 1923 in Clay County, Nebraska to Frederick Daniel and Henrietta Barbara (Lohmeier) Leininger. Following his schooling, Gene enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country during WWII in the Liberation of the Southern Philippines. On September 9, 1947 he married Dona Marie Robare at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sutton, and the couple was blessed with 8 children. Gene enjoyed being outdoors and helping Dona with the vegetable and flower gardens. He was a member of the VFW and liked watching his favorite sports teams and rodeo events in person and on TV.

Charlene Milroy

Charlene Milroy, age 80, of Aurora, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2015, at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 7 at the Chapel of Higby-McQuiston Mortuary.  Pastor Francois Erasmas will officiate.  Interment will be in Aurora Cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.  Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
Charlene Fern Milroy, the daughter of David and Betty May (Barker) Wetzel, was born in North Loup, on April 10, 1934 and passed away in Aurora, on January 3, 2014, at the age of 80.
She grew up in North Loup, where she was from a family of fourteen children.  At a young age their family moved to Grand Island, where Charlene attended school through the 8th grade.

James L. Mason

James L. Mason, age 74, of Hampton, passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at Bryan/LGH East Medical Center in Lincoln.

James LeRoy Mason, the son of John and Mary (Smith) Mason, was born in Clarinda, Iowa on May 26, 1940 and passed away in Lincoln, on December 31, 2014, at the age of 74.
Jim attended school in Iowa, California and Nebraska through the 8th grade and then went to work to help support his family.

John Wiener

John Wiener, age 55, of Aurora, passed away Friday, January 2, 2015, at Memorial Community Care.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m.. Thursday, January 8 at the Chapel of Higby-McQuiston Mortuary.  Pastor Francois Erasmas will officiate.  Interment will be in Aurora Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary.  Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
John Robert Wiener, the son of John D. and Theresa (Beeson) Wiener, was born in Los Angeles, California on September 2, 1959 and passed away in Aurora, on January 2, 2015, at the age of 55.
John spent several years at the Beatrice State Developmental Center at Nebraska City School for the Blind and Regional V Services.  He moved to Aurora in June of 2009, to be closer to his family.

Gary B. Charlton

Gary B. Charlton, age 77, of York, died Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Lincoln.  He was born December 10, 1937 in York to Blaine and Amanda (Nordmeyer) Charlton.  Following graduation from McCool Jct., High School, Gary joined the National Guard.  He farmed for Howard Wolstenholm for a time before being employed by York County as a heavy equipment operator.  He later became the York county Highway Superintendent of Roads, a position he held until his retirement in 2008.
Gary’s post-retirement years have been spent working for Kaliff Farms and Sahling Kenworth.  He enjoyed baling hay, tending to his horses and working in his shop.  Gary spent many years as a 4-H leader and was a lifetime member of the York Trail Riders.  He enjoyed horse shows, trail rides and camping with his extended family.  Summer vacations for the Charltons was always working horse security at the Nebraska State Fair.

Beulah Widga

Beulah Widga, age 90, of Aurora, formerly of Polk, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at Memorial Hospital.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 2 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Aurora.  Rev. Karl Larson will officiate.  Interment will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery at 2 p.m.  Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. one hour prior to the service at the church. Beulah M. Widga, the daughter of Urban and Verna (Hyatt) Spoor, was born in Peru, on June 21, 1924 and passed away in Aurora, on December 30, 2014, at the age of 90.
She graduated from Peru High School and then earned her Bachelors degree from Peru State College.  Beulah began her teaching career at Clarks.

Roberta "Bobby" Olive

Roberta “Bobby” Olive, 88, died on Dec. 30 in Grand Island.
Bobby was a voracious reader and consumed the written word with aggressive passion. She was intelligent and quick witted and loved the interesting and entertaining aspects of all life situations. She used her strong willed personality to engage others and steer her own actions, accompanied by her generous gifts of caring and gentle compassion. She was passionate about literature, Midwest and prairie history, and antiques of all kinds. She restored and brokered old treasures and made replicas of original prairie crafts and art, and volunteered her time at museums, community theater, Boy and Girl Scouts of America, and the PTA.

Patty Williamsen

Patty Williamsen, age 52, of Central City, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2014, at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island.

Patty Jo Williamsen, the daughter of Joe and Georgia (Coleman) Bracha, was born at Valentine, on January 20, 1962 and passed away in Grand Island, on December 24, 2014, at the age of 52.
Patty graduated from Cozad High School.  Patty was married to Rob Williamsen in 1989, Todd and Katie were born to this union.

Norma Weber

Norma Weber, age 80, of Giltner, passed away Monday, December 22, 2014, at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island, surrounded by her family.

Norma Lucille Weber, the daughter of Clifford and Velma (Maret) Murphy, was born at Huntley, on May 9, 1934 and passed away in Grand Island, on December 22, 2014, at the age of 80.
Norma lived in Huntley until she was 8, at that time her family moved to Wilcox.  She graduated from Wilcox High School.  Norma was married to Keith Smith in 1953 and they were later divorced.  She married Lynden Smith in 1967, they divorced in 1972.

Frederick Fick

Frederick Allen Fick, 73, Longmont, CO, died in his home on December 19, 2014.
Fred was born in Schleswig, Iowa to Edwin and Pearl (Higgins) Fick.  He was baptized in Schleswig at Immanuel Lutheran Church on February 9, 1941.  The family later moved to Le Mars, Iowa, where Fred was confirmed on April 11, 1954 at Grace Lutheran Church.  He attended Le Mars Community High School where he met his future wife Nancy Wendt.
Upon high school graduation in 1958, Fred enlisted in the United States Navy.  He and Nancy married on March 11, 1961.  While stationed in Pensacola, FL, Fred was in a car accident which left him partially paralyzed.   Fred and Nancy made their home in Le Mars, from 1961 – 1965 when they moved to Lafayette, CO, and began raising and showing quarter horses.  Fred was an active member of Our Savior’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and served the congregation in many different capacities.  He was also a member of the Paralyzed Veterans of America.
