Sharon R. Wiles

Sharon R. Wiles, 72 of Phillips died Saturday, July 7, 2018 at CHI St. Francis in Grand Island.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at the Phillips United Methodist Church in Phillips with Rev. Michelle Reed officiating.  Interment will be at the Phillips Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the Phillips United Methodist Church.  Memorials are suggested to the Phillips Methodist Church or the Humane Society.  Apfel Funeral Home is serving the family.
Sharon R. Wiles was born on November 14, 1945 in York, the daughter of Ruben and Agnes (Goertzen) Regier.  She grew up in Henderson, attending Henderson Public Schools and graduated from Nebraska Christian High School in Central City in 1965.  Sharon then went to Grand Island Business School from 1965 to 1967.

Mia Weakland

Mia Weakland, age 51, of Aurora, passed away on Friday, July 6, 2018, at her home after battling breast cancer.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 10 at the Chapel of Higby-McQuiston Mortuary.  Inurnment will be at a later date. No Visitation. Mia Marie Weakland, the daughter of Jon and Ann (Gray) Vredeveld, was born at Omaha,  on September 6, 1966 and passed away in Aurora, on July 6, 2018, at the age of 51.
She grew up in Grand Island and graduated from Northwest High School in 1984.  Mia received an Associate’s Degree in Accounting from Central Community College.  She worked as the manager for the Pump & Pantry in Doniphan.

Patricia 'Pat' Hanson

Patricia ‘Pat’ Hanson, age 87, of Aurora, passed away Friday, July 6, 2018, at Tiffany Square in Grand Island.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 9 at the Aurora United Methodist Church.  Rev. Michelle Reed will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary.  Memorials may be made in care of the family to be designated at a later date.  Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
Patricia Ann Hanson, the daughter of John Raymond and Twila (Sailor) Beacom, was born in Sutton, on September 24, 1930 and passed away in Grand Island, on July 6, 2018, at the age of 87.
She grew up on the family farm south of Aurora. In 1944, they moved into Aurora and Pat graduated from Aurora High School in 1948.

Phyllis A. (Nelson) Abbott

Phyllis A. (Nelson) Abbott, 78, of Olmsted Township, Ohio and formerly of Aurora, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2017 following a long illness.  Born in Aurora on January 8, 1939, she was the youngest daughter of Harold and Mayme Nelson.  She is survived by husband Frank Abbott, daughters Victoria (Patrick) Kruse, Kathryn (Cliff) Hellberg, granddaughters Alexandra Hellberg, Rachel (Mike) Johns, stepchildren Greg (Lisa) Abbott, Lori (Andy) Gasho, sister Gladys Holz of Central City, several nieces and nephews, grand dogs Sophie Marie Kruse, Floyd Abbott and grand cat Bella Hellberg.  
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Ken Hoch and sister Doris Oleson.
After living in New Hampshire and Pennsylvania while her husband was in the service, they settled in Ohio where they raised their family.  Though she had not lived in Nebraska for several years, she always considered Nebraska “home”.

Lova Klawonn, age 78, of Aurora, passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2018, at her home.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 7 at Zion Lutheran Church northeast of Hampton.  Rev. David Feddern will officiate. Interment will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Lova Jane Klawonn, the daughter of Robert and Amanda (Holste) Nietfeld, was born at Ludell, on March 8, 1940, and passed away at Aurora, on July 4, 2018, at the age of 78.
She grew up at Worms, where she attended Worms parochial school through the 8th grade with her twin sister, Lorna and brothers, Richard and Edgar.  Lova graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1958.

Martha (Marti) Ann Tubbs

Martha (Marti) Ann Tubbs, age 75, went to see her Lord and Savior peacefully after a long battle with kidney failure on Friday, June 29 at the Westfield Quality Care center in Aurora surrounded by her loving family
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 3 at the Chapel of Higby-McQuiston Chapel.  Chaplain Nick Tubbs and Pastor Jeff Robinson will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Judy Roehrs, age 59, of Hampton, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at Memorial Hospital in Aurora.

Doug Garrison, age 51, of Aurora, passed away on Thursday, June 21, 2018, at CHI Health-St. Francis in Grand Island.

Douglas Allan Garrison, the son of Dennis and Dianna (Jemison) Lechleitner, was born in Grand Island, on April 15, 1967 and passed away in Grand Island, on June 21, 2018, at the age of 51.

Karen Beretta

Karen Beretta, age 80, of Aurora, passed away on Wednesday, July 27th, 2018 at her home with her loving family around her. She bravely battled pancreatic cancer for over 4 years. She was a loving wife and mother.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 2 at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Rev. Greg Reed will officiate. To honor Karen’s wishes cremation has taken place. Dorothy L. Hughes

Dorothy L. Hughes, 77, died Monday, June 18, 2018 at CHI-Saint Francis in Grand Island.  Memorial services will be Friday, June 29, 2018 at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Central City with Pastor Tom Lucas officiating.  Burial will be at a later date.

Dorothy was born on March 12, 1941 to Doris Patzel in Omaha.  She was adopted by Charles William and Ila Draper at the age of two.  She graduated from North Platte High School and then attended the University of Colorado for two years where she studied music.  Dorothy later attended nursing school in Fort Worth, TX and received her LPN.  She married Benny H. Hughes on October 27, 1962 in Garrison, CO.  The couple moved frequently due to Benny’s work as an aviation mechanic and sheet metal laborer, living in Washington State, Texas, and Nebraska.
