Walter McConnell

Walter McConnell, age 71, of Aurora, passed away Friday, January 22, 2016, at the VA Hospital in Omaha.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 27 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hampton. Rev. Jim Gruber will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
Walter Clark McConnell, the son of Roy and Mary (Herrst) McConnell, was born at Yale, Michigan on September 10, 1944 and passed away in Omaha, on January 22, 2016, at the age of 71.
Walter grew up and graduated from high school in Yale, Michigan.  He then enlisted in the U. S. Air Force, where he served for four years before honorably discharged June 1966.  When he returned from the service, Walter worked at a Ford Garage in Yale.

Lucille Thomsen

Lucille Thomsen, age 71, of Aurora, passed away Monday, January 18, 2016, at Memorial Hospital.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 22 at St. John Lutheran Church at Kronborg. Pastor Ben Erzkus will officiate. Interment will be in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. Lucille Gladys Thomsen, the daughter of Arthur and Gladys (Ranard) Gimpel, was born on the family farm northeast of Giltner, on January 27, 1944 and passed away in Aurora, on January 18, 2016, at the age of 71.
She graduated from Giltner High School.

Alberta J. Larkowski

Alberta J. Larkowski, 77, of Central City, formerly of Dannebrog died Friday, December 25, 2015 at Litzenberg Memorial Hospital in Central City.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Grand Island.  Reverends Ben and Courtney Erzkus officiated.
Interment was at 2 p.m. in Nysted Cemetery northwest of Dannebrog.
Visitation was on Wednesday, from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice.     
Mrs. Larkowski was born February 13, 1938 in Grand Island to Julius and Christina (Schimmer) Elstermeier.
Alberta was raised in Grand Island and attended Grand Island Schools and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1957.
She then received her certified nurse’s aide certificate from Lutheran Hospital in Grand Island.
Alberta was united in marriage to Tom Reimers on March 28, 1958 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Grand Island.

Janaree Ediger Nore

Janaree Ediger Nore passed away at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk, on Monday, January 11, 2016 after falling into a coma one week prior following a routine surgery. For sixty years she enjoyed making art, teaching children, writing poetry and fiction, and meaningful conversations.
Born on September 7, 1955 to Betty June and Clifford James Ediger, Janaree grew up in Aurora with her sister Marlene and brother Mark. As a girl and a teen she loved being in girl scouts, baking in 4H, taking art lessons, attending methodist summer camp, skiing and photography. She played clarinet in the high school marching band and then switched to the drum section to play the cymbals; she marched five miles in the Miami Orange Bowl parade twirling the cymbals over her head.

Marilyn Heuermann

Marilyn Heuermann, age 84, of Grand Island, passed away Monday, January 4, 2016, at the Tiffany Square.
Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 11 at the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island. Rev. Caroline Price-Gibson officiated. Interment was at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Phillips Cemetery. Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Memorials may be made in care of family. Marilyn Jean Heuermann, the daughter of Christian and Matilda (Prinz) Elseman, was born at Omaha, on March 4, 1931 and passed away in Grand Island, on January 4, 2016, at the age of 84.

Martina Louise Petersen

Martina Louise Petersen, daughter of Ardean and Leone Petersen, was born July 8, 1941 in Aurora, and died January 3, 2016 at her home in Reno, Nevada.  She graduated from Hampton High School in 1959, attended the University of Nebraska, graduated from the Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing, received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Boston University and a Master of Science in Nursing Administration from DePaul University in Chicago, and was a Doctoral Candidate in Education from Oklahoma State University.  She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, Xi Chapter, at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, and a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the national nursing honorary society, from Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

Willard Klawonn

Willard Klawonn, age 91, of Aurora, formerly of Hampton, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2015, at Memorial Community Care.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, January 11 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hampton. Rev. Jim Gruber will officiate. Interment will be in the Hampton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5–7 p.m., Sunday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 381 H Street in Hampton. Memorials may be made to Hampton Lutheran School. Willard Earl Klawonn, the son of Bernard Paul and Alma (Salchow) Klawonn, was born near Bradshaw, on July 27, 1924 and passed away in Aurora, on January 5, 2016, at the age of 91.

Arnold Otto

Arnold Otto, age 82, of Aurora, passed away on Monday, January 4, 2016, at the Hamilton Manor.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, January 8 at Higby-McQuiston Chapel in Aurora. Interment will be in the Phillips Cemetery. Arnold Eugene Otto, the son of W. Gordon and Wilma (Arnold) Otto, was born in rural Phillips, on July 4, 1933 and died in Aurora, on January 4, 2016 at the age of 82 years.
He grew up in Phillips, where his family owned Otto’s Service.  Arnold graduated from Phillips High School in 1950, received a diploma from Northwest Radio and Television in Hollywood, California and a Bachelors of Science in Secondary Education from UNL.

Sharon A. Mason

Sharon A. Mason, age 74, of Grand Island, formerly of Hampton, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at Golden Living-Lakeview.

Sharon Ann Mason, the daughter of Everett and Marvel (Swanson) McCray, was born in Wolbach, on July 18, 1941 and passed away in Grand Island, on December 30, 2015, at the age of 74.
Sharon grew up in Wolbach and graduated from Wolbach High School, where she was Prom Queen and lettered in volleyball and basketball.  After graduation she moved to Lincoln, where she worked for Cedars Home for Children.

Laura Jensen, age 56, of Aurora, went to be with her Heavenly Father, Tuesday, December 22, 2015, at her home.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, December 28 at the Monroe Evangelical Free Church in Phillips. Pastors Bob Stretch and Joe Mullarkey will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the Monroe Evangelical Free Church, 1001 West 18 Road. Laura Marie Jensen, the daughter of Franklin and Evelyn (Hinkle) Miller, was born at Nebraska City, on May 13, 1959 and went to be with her Heavenly Father in Aurora, on December 22, 2015, at the age of 56.
Laura grew up in Valley, and then went on to attend and graduated from Grand Island Central Community College.
