James (Jim) Martin Murphy

Former Aurora resident, James (Jim) Martin Murphy passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of Friday, December 11. Jim was born December 8, 1928 to Cornelius (CJ) and Laura (Martin) Murphy in Geneva. The family lived in Geneva where two more sons, Paul and Bernard (Pete), joined the family. They then moved to a farm near Giltner in 1935. Jim attended Giltner High School, where he was a four-sport athlete and graduated in 1946.
Jim farmed with his father and brothers after high school until joining the US military in 1951 where he served in the Army Signal Corps during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1953.
He returned to Nebraska and went to work for E.R. Springer in Aurora. During this time he also attended the Fridgidare Corporation refrigeration school in Omaha. After successful completion of his schooling, he continued working for E.R. Springer until the family moved to Washington in 1963.

James Topham

James Topham, age 78, of Harvard, formerly of Aurora, passed away on Friday, November 13, 2015, at Harvard Rest Haven in Harvard.
 A Remembrance Service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 27 at the Leadership Center 2211 Q Street, Aurora. Private family inurnment will be at Aurora Cemetery.  There will be no visitation.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Harvard Rest Haven or the American Legion Post #61 of Sutton.  Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.  Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.

Jack Robert Killion

Jack Robert Killion passed away in Lake Forest, CA on December 14, 2015 at the age of 86.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, December 21, 2015 at Apfel Funeral Home, Grand Island with the Rev. Jack Gillam officiating.  Burial will be in Grand Island Cemetery, Grand Island.  Military honors will be provided by United Veterans Honor Guard Team and the United States Navy Honors Team.   Visitation hours will be 4-7 Sunday, December 20, 2015 and 10 a.m. Monday until service time at Apfel Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the Lutheran Hour Ministries at www.lhmgift.org or 660 Mason Ridge Center Drive, St. Louis, MO 63141, or the VFW at www.vfw.org. A memorial service will be held at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church in Lake Forest, CA at a later date.

Pastor Harry Soren Andersen

Pastor Harry Søren Andersen, the first Bishop of the Northern Great Lakes Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America passed away, Friday, Dec. 4, 2015. The Memorial Service for Bishop Andersen is Jan. 2, 2016, at Ascension Lutheran Church, Minocqua, WI. Visitation is at 1 p.m.,  with the service at 2 p.m.
In 1943, Harry married his high school sweetheart and soul mate,  Dorothy Elaine Erickson.
They have 3 children: Elaine Bugge (Larry),  Craig (Sharon) and Brad (Joanne). 6 grandchildren: David and Carol Bugge; Eric and Loren; Rachel Anderson and Michael. 1 great grandchild: Nicole Anderson.
Ordained in 1952, Harry served 3  parishes in Michigan: Juhl Community, Zion Germania in Marlette and Trinity, Brown City. He then served St. Stephens on Chicago’s south side for 8 years.

Jack Bryan

Jack Bryan was born in Aurora on Sept. 3, 1929, and died at his home in Pueblo, Colo., Dec. 11, 2015.
Jack graduated from Aurora High School in 1947 and enjoyed a long career in teaching and education administration, starting in Nebraska and later Colorado. He married his wife, Elaine, in 1952, and they enjoyed many years teaching and travelling together before she died in 2004.
He leaves three sisters and their families and many nephews and nieces
A Masonic graveside service was held at Bartley, Neb., under the direction of George McCarthy Funeral Home in Pueblo, Colo.

Lillian Kisler

Lillian Kisler, age 81, of Aurora, passed away Monday, December 14, 2015, at the Memorial Community Care.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, December 18 at the St. John Lutheran Church at Kronborg. Rev. Ben Erzkus will officiate. Interment will be in the St. John Kronborg Cemetery. Lillian Therese Kisler, the daughter of Magnus P. and Emma J.D. (Fogt) Hemmingsen, was born in Kronborg, on February 27, 1934 and passed away in Aurora, on December 14, 2015, at the age of 81.
She grew up in Marquette, where she went to school.  Lillian graduated from Marquette High School in 1951.  She worked at the State Capitol in Lincoln and at the Cornhusker Ordinance Plant in Grand Island.

Lorraine Auch

Lorraine Auch, age 85, of Aurora, passed away Friday, December 11, 2015, at the Hearthstone in York.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 18 at the Evangelical Covenant Church. Rev. Karl Larson will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Lorraine Mae Auch, the daughter of Emil and Mae (Hladky) Rada, was born in Utica, South Dakota on March 19, 1930 and passed away in York, on December 11, 2015, at the age of 85.
She grew up on a farm near Scotland, South Dakota, where she attended country school.

Linda Marie Linder

Linda Marie Linder, 104, of Aurora, died on Monday, December 7, 2015 at Aurora Memorial Community Care.  The family has chosen cremation and to have services at a later date.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.soltwagnerfuneral.com.
Linda Marie was born on December 12, 1910 in Round Valley, Nebraska to Ed and Addie (Decker) McGee.  Linda grew up in the Ord area and attended school there.  In 1940 she married Harry Linder and they then moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1942. She lived in Tucson as well as in Oregon until 1983.  She then returned to Nebraska, living in Hordville, Ord, Grand Island until moving to Aurora in 1998. She worked most of her life as a clerk in retail.
Linda loved to be around nature, and all animals, especially her cat “Sammy”.  She enjoyed sewing, and working with and counseling children.  Her church was also a very important part of her life.

Gladys Peterson

Gladys Peterson, age 88, of Aurora, passed away Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Memorial Community Care.
Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, December 7 at the Mamre Evangelical Free Church near Marquette.  Pastor Bill Stearns and Rev. Karl Larson officiated.   Interment was held in the Mamre Church Cemetery.   Visitation was  from 4-6 p.m., Sunday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Gladys Alfreda Peterson, the daughter of John Simon and Alfreda Rosalinda (Johanson) Bjorkman, was born at Hordville, on December 31, 1926 and passed away in Aurora, on December 3, 2015, at the age of 88.
Gladys attended elementary and high school in Hordville graduating with the Class of 1943.  She attended Nebraska Central Teachers College in Central City before teaching school at Hamilton County Dist. 74 & 19.

Dr. Caryll Palmer Wilson

Dr. Caryll Palmer Wilson, clinical psychologist, 64, passed away Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015, at home in the loving care of her family in Ceresco. She was born Aug. 3, 1951 to Edmund and Jeannette (Ferry) Hallowell in Germantown, Philadelphia, PA. A passionate woman who lived life to the fullest, Caryll earned her pilot’s license and was flying her own plane by age 24. She later graduated from college summa cum laude and obtained her doctorate from the School Psychology program at UNL in Lincoln. She was the founder and president of the Wilson Behavioral Pediatric and Family Psychology Clinic (later renamed Williamsburg Behavioral . . .) in Lincoln.
She cared very deeply for her patients, and specialized in treating childhood and adult autistic spectrum disorders.
