Dean Carriker

Dean Carriker, age 86, of Aurora, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2018, at Memorial Community Care.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 12 at the Aurora United Methodist Church.  Rev. Karla Sheffy will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to the Dean & Pat Carriker Scholarship Fund.  Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
Dean Edgar Carriker, the son of LeRoy Strawn and Erma Katherine (Keller) Carriker, was born at Harvard, on February 13, 1932, and passed away at Aurora, on April 7, 2018, at the age of 86.

Donald Obermeier

Donald Obermeier, age 93, of Giltner, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018, at Memorial Hospital.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 10 at the Giltner United Methodist Church.  Rev. Kathy Uldrich will officiate.  Interment will be in the Giltner Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the Giltner United Methodist Church, 418 N. Donald William Obermeier, the son of Carl and Mabel (Bigger) Obermeier, was born in Giltner, on January 16, 1925 and passed away in Aurora, on April 5, 2018, at the age of 93.
Don was baptized and confirmed in the First Evangelical and Reformed Church of Harvard.  He graduated from Harvard High School in 1943.

Jill A. Chambers

Jill A. Chambers, 82, formerly of North Platte, passed away March 28, 2018 in Colorado.  She was born January 3, 1936 to Denzel and Francis (Bush) Jenkins at Grand Island.  She graduated from Grand Island Central Catholic and Kearney State Teacher’s College.  She worked for Aurora Public Schools in her early years.
Jill’s legacy was her children and grandchildren.  She loved them all unconditionally with all her heart as our LORD loves each of us.  She covered over them in prayer daily.  She was a prayer warrior!  If you met her, even though you may not have known, she prayed for you.  If you got to know her as your friend, she prayed for you and you knew and felt her prayers.
She is survived by her sons Jeff (Kathy), Jim (Shanda), Todd, and Mark (Wendy); grandchildren, Matthew, Joel, Kyle, Travis, Shawn, Lindsey, Kristen, Jeremy, Courtney and Logan; great-grandchildren, Ryden, Mikayla, Brayden, Tanner and Talon; her sister, Joan Galusha; and many friends.

Betty Franz

Betty Lou Franz, 72, peacefully went to be with the Lord on March 31, 2018. Her faith in God was her lifelong passion, and her Bible her most prized possession. She prayed daily for her family and friends, played hymns by ear on piano with gusto, and regularly took notes in church. Betty never tired of talking about God’s promises and was eager to encourage those in need.
Betty was born to Henry and Bertha Janzen, the seventh of nine children, in York on Jan. 17, 1946. She grew up on a farm near Lushton and loved to tell stories about the one-room schoolhouse she attended. Betty attended high school in Henderson and earned a bachelor’s degree from Grace University in Omaha.
She was a member of the Christians Women’s Club of Aurora and owned and operated the Classic Victorian Century House Tea Room in Aurora for ten years. She also sold Christian books and gifts as Wisdom’s Shelf. Betty was also a vendor at Village Square in Aurora as well.

Louis Dean Quiring

Louis Dean Quiring, 81, of Henderson, died Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Bryan West in Lincoln.  Funeral services will be Thursday, April 5, 2018 at 3 p.m. at Solt-Wagner Funeral Home in Central City with Pastor Vic Crane officiating.
Memorials are suggested to the family.  Condolences can be sent to the family at www.soltwagnerfuneral.com.
Louis was born on July 21, 1936 to John and Lena (Penner) Quiring in Henderson.  He grew up in the Hampton area and attended Hillcrest District 3 school.  He married Grace Smith in 1956 and they were married for 37 years.  He began farming at an early age and farmed most of his life.  He was a very good mechanic and especially working on irrigation power units and old tractors.  Louis liked to go dancing and spending time at the York Eagles Club.
He was a member of the York Eagle’s Club and was confirmed at the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson.

Myrtle Izora (Hielen) Grant

Myrtle Izora (Hielen) Grant of Lincoln, was born on January 30, 1943 in Columbia, South Carolina to John I and Nina M. Hielen.  She passed away peacefully while reading a book on Wednesday, March 28, 2018.
Her family moved to Nebraska in 1950.  She graduated from Aurora High School and then left to serve in the Women’s Army Corp where she met her husband Arthur Donald Grant.
After leaving the Army, Myrtle moved to Lincoln and worked for Miller & Paine bakery until their closure and then worked in the bakery for Russ’s Market Bishop Heights and 17th & Washington before retiring.  She was active in the Cornhusker Doll Club and sewed doll clothes that she donated to different organizations.  She loved reading and instilled a love of the same in her daughter.  She also enjoyed baking for the other residents at her apartment complex The Walter.

David E. Hosier

David E. Hosier, 68 of Grand Island died Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Good Samaritan Society, Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Apfel Funeral Home, Grand Island with Derek J. Apfel officiating.  Burial will be in Cedarview Cemetery, Doniphan.  Visitation hours will be 4-7 p.m. Monday, April 2, 2018 at Apfel Funeral Home.  Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.  Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family.
David Edward Hosier was born October 1, 1949 in Aurora, the son of Donald and Inez (Druba) Hosier.  He grew up in Giltner, graduating from Giltner High School with the class of 1967.  He was united in marriage to Kathryn S. “Kathy” Torgerson on October 19, 1968.  The couple made their home in Grand Island where he was employed by Chief Industries and Lewis Greenscape. His wife, Kathy preceded him in death, May 22, 2012.

Dale Regier

Dale Regier, age 69, of Hampton, passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at his home.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 3 at the Countryside Bible Church south of Hampton.  Inurnment will be at a later date.  No Visitation.  Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.

Ronald Bernhardt

Ronald Bernhardt, 68, of Giltner, passed away on March 27, 2018 at Memorial Community Care in Aurora.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 31 at the Christian Resource Center, 603 South K Rd., Giltner.  The Reverend Paul Nauman and Chaplain Aaron Phillips will officiate.  Ron will be clad in jeans and tee shirt and attendees are encouraged to dress comfortably as well.  Interment will be in the Giltner Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora.
