Betty Braun

Betty Braun, age 90, of Aurora, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2019 at Memorial Community Care.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 13 at Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson. Rev. Andrea Wall will officiate. Private Family interment prior to the service will be in the Bethesda Cemetery in Henderson. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m., Tuesday, with the family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Betty Jewel Braun, the daughter of Frank A. and Agatha (Harder) Friesen, was born at O’Neill, on Dec. 21, 1928 and passed away in Aurora, on March 10, 2019, at the age of 90.

Mary Jean Bremer

Mary Jean Bremer, 101, died March 1 at the Sanford Care Center in Vermillion, South Dakota. She was born Sept. 3, 1917 in York, daughter of Carl Bremer and Emma Elizabeth (Jeske) Bremer.
Miss Bremer was a director and part owner of Paint Brush Corporation in Vermillion where she was secretary/treasurer. She worked at the company from 1948 until her retirement in 2006. She grew up in Aurora, where she graduated from Aurora High School. She also attended the University of Nebraska. Miss Bremer worked for the Internal Revenue Service. She served in the United States Army in the Office of Army Intelligence in Washington, D.C. from 1944 to 1946.
She was predeceased by her parents and by her sister, Elizabeth Bremer, with whom she remained very close until her death in 2000.

Velda Anderson

Velda Anderson, age 87, of Aurora, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at Bryan/LGH East Medical Center in Lincoln.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 11 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Aurora. Rev. Sarah Ruch will officiate.  Inurnment will be at the Aurora Cemetery.  No Visitation.  Memorials may be made in care of the family to designate at a later date.  Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora is in charge of arrangements.  Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
Velda Fay Anderson, the daughter of George Ralph and Edna (Hamburger) Read, was born at home along with her twin sister, Nelda, near Inland in Clay County, on Nov. 14, 1931 and passed away on March 6, 2019 at the age of 87.

William "Bill" Rinke

William “Bill” Lee Rinke, 70, of Aurora, formerly of Grand Island passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2019, at Westfield Quality Care in Aurora.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 8, at All Faiths Funeral Home of Grand Island.  A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9, at the funeral home.  His ashes will be buried at a later date.
Bill was born July 18, 1948 in Grand Island, the son of Elmer and Leona (Goehring) Rinke. He grew up and received his education in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High with the Class of 1966. He then graduated from Central Nebraska Tech College in 1968 in Hastings and went on to attend UNL.

Wilbur H. Ocker

Giltner resident Wilbur H. Ocker, 83, passed away Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, surrounded by his family.        
Graveside Services with  military rites by Doniphan American Legion Post 300 are 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at Giltner Cemetery in Giltner with Rev. Paul Nauman officiating. The family requests casual dress at the services. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. There will be no viewing or visitation. Rex Nissen

Rex Nissen, age 72, of Aurora, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 1, 2019, at Memorial Hospital.

Rex Nissen was born Feb. 6, 1947 in Grand Island, to Delmar and Pauline (Norgard) Nissen.  He grew up on the family farm in Hamilton County.  Rex passed away on March 1, 2019 at the age of 72.
Rex was baptized and confirmed in St. John’s Lutheran Church at Kronborg, and became a member of Aurora United Methodist Church in 1974.  He attended school in Marquette, and graduated in 1965.

Karen Moncrief

Karen Moncrief, age 73, of Lincoln, formerly of Aurora passed away on Monday, Feb. 25, 2019, at Southlake Village Rehabilitation and Care Center.
Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 2 at the Stockham Community Church. Rev. Paul Nauman will officiate. Interment will be in the Harvard Cemetery, prior to the Memorial Service at 10 a.m. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Karen Kay Moncrief, the daughter of Wilbert Fred and Helen D. (Nelson) Klein, was born in Palmer, on March 19, 1945 and passed away in Lincoln, on Feb. 25, 2019, at the age of 73.

David Haack

David Haack, age 57, of Harvard, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019, at Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings.

David Wayne Haack, the son of Jerry, Sr. and Phyllis (Butterbaugh) Haack, was born in Hastings, on March 27, 1961 and passed away in Hastings, on Feb. 21, 2019, at the age of 57.
David grew up in Hastings and Hampton.  He attended school in Hampton.
David married Robin Anderson on Dec. 31, 1984.  They had three children: Amanda, Theresa and Steven.  They later divorced.

Mahlon Dewane Eck

Mahlon Dewane Eck, age 85 of Henderson, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019 at Henderson. He was born August 28, 1933 to Frank A. and Susie (Johnson) Eck at Meno, Oklahoma. On April 27, 1956, he was united in marriage to Jennie Peters in Henderson. Mahlon was a lifelong farmer in Clay, York, and Hamilton Counties. He enjoyed woodworking, camping and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Mahlon is survived by his wife Jennie of Henderson, sons Nathan (Sally) Eck and Anthony Joe Eck of Henderson, daughters Joy (Frank) Steckly of Beaver Crossing, and Dawn (Marty) Meinzer of York; nine grandchildren, eight greatgrandchildren, sister-in-law Rose Eck of Tulsa, OK, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and five sisters.

Donna Lee (Gustafson) Erlenbusch

Donna L. Erlenbusch, 72 of Ashland, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Feb. 15, 2019 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Donna Lee (Gustafson) Erlenbusch, daughter of Walter and Violet (Veed) Gustafson, was born April 5, 1946 south of Marquette. She grew up in Marquette in a loving Christian family with three older brothers and two younger sisters.
She graduated from Marquette High School in 1964. She married John Erlenbusch Oct. 5, 1968. They had two children, Scott and Amy. Donna worked in various towns including Aurora, Grand Island, Omaha and St. Charles, IL, before returning to Ashland in 2000. Donna retired in 2009 when she became the sole caregiver for her husband.
Donna loved spending time with her children, granddaughter, family and her grandpups: Wiggy, Bentley, Remy and Sophie. She opened her home to everyone and was known to all as Ma.
