Kay Omel

Kay Omel, age 66, of Giltner, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2019, at Westfield Quality Care in Aurora.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 3 at the United Methodist Church in Giltner. Rev. Kathy Uldrich will officiate. Interment will be in the Giltner Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Giltner.  Memorials may be made to the family to designate at a later date.  Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Kay Frances Omel, the daughter of Francis and Mildred (Halbmaier) Skupa, was born in Hastings, on July 18, 1952 and passed away in Aurora, on March 30, 2019, at the age of 66.

Daniel J. Bykerk

Daniel J. Bykerk, 80, of Aurora, died Friday March 29, 2019 at Westfield Quality Care.  A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, April 4 at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament in Grand Island.  Father Martin Egging will officiate.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7 p.m., with a Rosary at 7 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament.
Daniel was born on Nov. 3, 1938 to Daniel and Anna (Seaman) Bykerk, in Spalding.  He graduated from Spalding Academy with the class of 1956.
He was united in marriage to Loretta Hodson on Sept. 18, 1965.  Four children were blessed into this union.  Following their marriage, they lived in Grand Island for one year and then moved to Phillips.  Dan was employed as a truck driver before moving to B&Y Supply and finally settling at Bonneville Manufacturing.
Daniel was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, a Cub Scout Master, and the mayor of Phillips for 13 years.  He enjoyed going fishing, and spending time with his dogs.

Clifford "Dean" Garringer

Clifford “Dean” Garringer, 81, of Aurora passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2019.
To honor Dean’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a burial of ashes in Yankee Point Cemetery in North English, Iowa.  All Faiths Funeral Home of Grand Island is serving the family.
Dean was born Feb. 18, 1938 in North English, the son of John and Bertha (Claypool) Garringer.  He grew up and received his education in Iowa.
On May 3, 1974, Dean was united in marriage to Gwendolyn Raschke Anding.  Following their marriage, they lived in Omaha, relocating to Grand Island in 1976.
Dean was in the restaurant business most of his life.  He and Gwen owned and operated The Eatery of Grand Island.

Harold Wasem

Harold John Wasem was born on June 5, 1923, at the family farm, North of Fenn, Idaho to Henry John and Alta Leona (Fortin) Wasem.  From an early age his parents taught him the values of hard work, commitment to family and that personal integrity and honesty are no small things.  Throughout his life he encouraged and nurtured these values in his children.  Harold also learned at an early age, and passed along to his children, the belief that anything worth building – needed to be built “hell for stout”.
In his youth, Harold and his brother Glenn rode horse-back three miles to school each day.  Harold began his early education at Highland country school.  Later he attended school in Cottonwood, graduating from Grangeville High School in 1942.  He studied at the University of Idaho for a short time until called home to help manage the family farm during World War II.  Harold also served in the Army during War II.

Joan Ediger

Joan Ediger, age 83, of Aurora, passed away Monday, March 25, 2019, at Henderson Care Center.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 28 at the Evangelical Free Church in Aurora. Rev. Vance Christie will officiate. Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. prior to the service at the Mennonite Brethren Cemetery, north of Henderson, all are welcome. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Joan Joyce Ediger, the daughter of Harry P. and Elma (Nachtigal) Epp, was born at home in Hamilton County, on Sept. 25, 1935 and passed away in Henderson, on March 25, 2019, at the age of 83.

Patricia Holmberg

Patricia Holmberg, age 94, of Aurora, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Memorial Community Care in Aurora.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 27 at Monroe Evangelical Free Church near Phillips.  Rev. Doug Willey will officiate.  Interment will be in the Monroe Evangelical Free Cemetery prior to the service at 10 a.m.  Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Patricia “Pat” Louise Hendricks was born Nov. 21, 1924 to Melvin and Edith (Anderson) Hendricks at their farm home in Phelps County, and passed away on March 23, 2019.

Daisy Tuttle

Daisy Tuttle, 93, of Aurora, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Westfield Quality Care in Aurora.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 26 at the United Methodist Church in Aurora. Gil Nissen and Rev. Greg Reed will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery prior to the service at 9:30 a.m. for family and friends.  Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Daisy Catherine Tuttle, the daughter of Claude and Ozellar (Bales) Davison, was born in Colorado, on Oct. 18, 1925, and passed away at Aurora, on March 21, 2019, at the age of 93.

Wanda Wimer

Wanda Marie Heins Wimer, age 87, of York, died Monday, March 18, 2019 at York. She was born August 30, 1931 in Hampton, to Paul and Norma (Heiden) Budnick. On Feb. 25, 1951, she was united in marriage to Keith Heins rural Hampton. She was later united in marriage to Lavern Wimer May 20, 1995 in rural Polk.
Wanda worked at Sears in York for 20 years, and was also a teller at York State Bank. She was a long time member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, York. Wanda enjoyed going on trips with the Fun Club, creating needle point crosses, and making jewelry. She enjoyed bowling, and attending all of her family’s activities.

Bret H. Owens

Bretley Hunter Owens, 61, peacefully passed away March 15, 2019, in Wichita, Kans. encircled by his beloved family and friends. He was born Nov. 26, 1957, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Hutchinson, Kans. the son of Leslie and Constance Owens. Bret graduated from high school in Aurora, in 1976. He was a member of the Methodist Church and a born-again Christian. Bret was a businessman, owning and operating Owens’ Optical in Hutchinson for 14 years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Les Owens, and sister, Vickie Lynn Owens.
Bret is survived by: mother, Constance Owens, Hutchinson; sister, Stephany Miller (Jim), Aurora; brother, Bradley A. Owens, Hutchinson; nephew, Riley Miller, Aurora; and niece, Cameron Owens, Hutchinson.

Orion 'Sarge' Collingham

Orion ‘Sarge’ Collingham, 95, of Aurora, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2019 in Lincoln at CHI-St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 12 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Aurora.  Rev. Sarah Ruch will officiate. Interment will be at the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Monday at Messiah Lutheran Church, 415 South 18th Street, Aurora.  Memorials may be made to the family to designate at a later date.  Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Orion ‘Sarge’ V. Collingham, the son of Walter and Bessie (Sommers) Collingham, was born on the farm by McCool Junction, on May 5, 1923 and passed away in Lincoln, on March 9, 2019, at the age of 95.
