Elaine Penner

Elaine Penner, age 88, of Aurora, formerly of Grand Island, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2020, at Westfield Quality Care.
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions in place at this time, private family inurnment will be at the Aurora Catholic Cemetery.  A Rosary and Memorial Service will take place at a later date.  Memorials may be made in care of the family to designate at a later date.  Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
Elaine Mary Penner, the daughter of Joseph and Frances (Orendorff) Strotman, Sr., was born in Aurora, on March 8, 1932 and passed away in Aurora, on April 22, 2020, at the age of 88.
She attended school in Aurora and graduated from Aurora High School.  Elaine then went to work as a bookkeeper for the JC Penney Store.

Orrie James

Orrie James, age 77, of Grand Island, formerly of Aurora, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2020, at Lakeview Nursing Home.

Orrie Junior James, the son of Paul Lee and Goldie Elizabeth (Alkire) James, was born in Omaha, on July 26, 1942 and passed away on April 23, 2020 at the age of 77.
Orrie grew up in Omaha and several other cities in Nebraska.
Orrie married Delores Chollar on June 21, 1976 at Grand Island.  They had two children.  Orrie did manual labor for the City of Aurora and worked for several farmers in the area. They moved to Grand Island in 2015.
Orrie was a member of the First Christian Church.

Delores James

Delores James, age 71, of Grand Island, formerly of Aurora, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2020, at CHI-St. Francis Medical Center only 5 hours and one minute after her husband passed away.

Delores Jean James, the daughter of George and Cecilia (Kuta) Chollar, Jr., was born in Columbus, on November 4, 1948 and passed away on April 23, 2020 at the age of 71.
Delores grew up and attended school in Aurora.
Delores married Orrie Junior James on June 21, 1976 at Grand Island.  They had two children.  Delores worked in several cafes and was domestic help for several families in the area. They moved to Grand Island in 2015.

Sutton resident Martin Nuss, 86, passed away Monday, April 20, 2020, at the Henderson Health Care Hospital in Henderson.
  Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, a private family funeral service will be conducted Thursday, April 23, 2020, at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton, with the Free German Reformed Salem Church Elders officiating.  Services will be live-streamed from Sutton Memorial Chapel’s Facebook page beginning at 10 a.m.  Private interment will follow at the Free German Reformed Salem Church Cemetery near Sutton.  Visitation will be Wednesday, from 4-8 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton.
  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be designated later.

Pearl L. Fick

Pearl L. Fick, 102, formerly of Longmont, Colorado,  passed away of natural causes  on Thursday, April 9, 2020, at Memorial Community Care in Aurora.  A private family burial will be held in Longmont, Colorado, on Wednesday, April 15.
Pearl Louise Fick was born on December 10, 1917, in Villisca, Iowa, to Russell and Lola (Frank) Higgins.  She was raised in Villisca until 1924 when the family moved to Denison, Iowa.  Pearl was baptized at First Methodist Church in Denison in March 1932, and graduated from Denison High School in 1935.

Jimmy ‘Jim’ Ray Leth, the son of Amos and Shirley (Doremus) Ward, was born in Austin, Texas on Dec. 5, 1949 and passed away on April 11, 2020 at the age of 70.
Jim moved around as a child due to his father’s military service, living in Texas, Puerto Rico, Arizona before the family settled in Nebraska. He attended Cairo Public Schools, graduated from Centura High School in 1968 and Hastings Tech for auto mechanics.

Betty A. Ranard

With a sense of peace and grace, Betty A. Ranard, 92, passed away at home in Grand Island on Wednesday, April 8, 2020.  In light of Covid-19 concerns, a memorial service will be held at a later time.
Betty Arlene Hunnicutt was born on Jan. 31, 1928, to Otto Clifton and Bessie May (Detamore) Hunnicutt in their farmhouse just outside of Giltner.  The fifth of eight children, Betty grew up in a close-knit, caring, and hardworking family during the drought and the Great Depression of the 1930s.  Walking two miles each way, she attended Mt. Hope (#28) country school, and she and her family were involved in 4-H, with projects ranging from sewing and cooking to showing poultry and livestock, with Betty representing Hamilton County as Health Champion at the Nebraska State Fair.

Marilyn Wortman

Marilyn Wortman, widow of Ken Wortman, of Aurora, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2020, at Bickford Cottage in Grand Island where she had resided for over five years.

Marilyn E. Wortman, the daughter of Ira and Margaret (Kane) McCord, was born in Pelos Park, Illinois on Nov. 2, 1927 and passed away on April 9, 2020 at the age of 92.
Marilyn graduated from Wisner High School in 1945.

Donald Danielson

Donald Arner Danielson who was known to many as “Duck” graduated to his Heavenly Home early in the morning of March 19, 2020.
He was born February 5, 1930 in Aurora, to Arner and Ruth Danielson. He graduated from Aurora High School with the class of 1948.
After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he completed his education at San Jose State receiving his Master’s Degree in Education. He taught and coached high school in Pasadena, California for 30 years. He and his wife, Ona, retired to Prescott in 1990. Don’s passion for volunteering began at Mile High School for a brief time, Red Cross Disaster, Juvenile Justice Committee and at Yavapai Regional Medical Center in the Cath Lab. He was honored to receive volunteer of the year at YRMC. He was a “people person”, never knew a stranger.

Myron Ostrander

Myron Ostrander, age 90, of Aurora, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2020, at Blue Valley Lutheran Home in Hebron.

Myron Ellis Ostrander, the son of Fred and Hazel (Lawver) Ostrander, was born in Rising City, on March 13, 1930 and passed away on March 30, 2020 at the age of 90.
Myron grew up and attended school.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  Myron was honorably discharged on Nov. 30, 1954.
Myron married Rowena Campbell on March 31, 1956 and they had six children.  She passed away on Jan. 28, 1987.
