Patricia Ann Bowman

Patricia Ann Bowman, of Bruning, age 98 years, 8 months, 13 days, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Heritage Care Center in Fairbury.  Pat was born to Ray and Lena (Doty) at home in Belvidere, April 17, 1919.  She graduated from Belvidere High School in 1937.  Pat worked at Gold’s Department Store in Lincoln after high school, at an aircraft defense plant assembly plant and as an operator in Los Angeles.  Later she was assigned to Lincoln Western Electric assembling telephones.  After marriage, Pat worked at the Bruning Drug store and as a postal clerk in the Bruning Post Office until she became the postmaster 1978-1990.
Pat married Lorin Bowman on February 18, 1948 in Lincoln.  She was baptized, confirmed and became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church that year.

Donald Troester

Donald Troester, age 92, of Aurora, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at the Hamilton Manor.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 6 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hampton. Rev. Jim Gruber will officiate.  Interment will be at Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation with family will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 381 H Street, Hampton.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church or Hampton Lutheran School. Donald William Troester, the son of William C. and Anna (Bamesberger) Troester, was born on the family farm in Hamilton County, on Sept. 27, 1925 and passed away in Aurora, on Jan. 2, 2018, at the age of 92.

Richard Wayne "Dick" Rathje

Richard Wayne “Dick” Rathje, 86, of Phillips passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2017.
Service and celebration of Dick’s life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.  Reverend William Pavuk will officiate.  It was Dick’s wish to have his body donated to science upon his death.  Burial will be in the Phillips Cemetery.
A gathering of friends and family will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Phillips Community Center.
Dick was born Sept. 19, 1931 in rural Phillips to Herbert and Minnie (Bartz) Rathje.  He grew up in Phillips, graduating from Phillips High School with the class of 1949.  He joined the United States Coast Guard in 1951.  Serving during the Korean War, he was honorably discharged in April of 1953.

Eugene Gustafson

Eugene Gustafson, age 95, of Aurora, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017, at Memorial Community Care in Aurora.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, January 8 at the Monroe Evangelical Free Church, north of Murphy. Pastor Doug Willey will officiate. Interment will be in the Monroe Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Monroe Evangelical Free Church. Memorials may be made to Monroe Evangelical Free Church or World Gospel Mission for Kaboson Pastors Training College guesthouse project. T. Eugene Gustafson, the son of Walter Benjamin and Myrtle (Pearson) Gustafson, was born in Phelps County, on June 2, 1922 and passed away in Aurora, on Dec. 30, 2017, at the age of 95.

Barbara Jean Gibreal

Barbara Jean Gibreal of Grand Island, died Thursday December 28, 2017 at Park Place after numerous health issues.  Burial of cremains will be at Niobrara a later date.
Apfel Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Barbara was born on September 27, 1951 in Plainview,  to Bob and Shirley (Freeman) Clark. She grew up in Niobrara, Seward and Holdrege, attending school and graduating from Holdrege High School in 1969. Barbara then attended Kearney State College for two years, afterwards working as a college secretary at Kearney State, bank teller in Cairo, and then a legal secretary at Walters & Murray law firm in Grand Island.
She was united in marriage to Larry Gibreal in 1972 at Aurora. After which the couple lived on a farm near Cairo for 25 years. Barbara enjoyed ceramics, crafting and gardening.

Walt Oswald

Walt Oswald, age 81, of Aurora, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2017, at his home.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 2 at the Aurora United Methodist Church.  Rev. Sarah Ruch will officiate.  Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church, 1104 A Street, Aurora.  Memorials may be made to the family to designate at a later date.  Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Walter M. Oswald, the son of Harold F. and Esther Mary (Smith) Oswald, was born at Aurora, on March 13, 1936, and passed away at Aurora, on December 28, 2017, at the age of 81.

Gaylerd Gene Stevens

Gaylerd Gene Stevens, 75, of Hordville, died at his home on Tuesday, December 26, 2017.  Funeral services will be on Friday, December 29, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Polk with Rev. Dan Spearow and Chaplin Aaron Phillips officiating.  Visitation will be on Thursday, December 28 from 5-7 p.m. at Solt-Wagner Funeral Home in Polk.  In lieu of flowers the family asks the memorials be given to Polk United Methodist Church or Polk Fire and Rescue.  Condolences may be sent to family at www.soltwagnerfuneral.com.
Gaylerd was born April 20, 1942 in Stromsburg, to Arlo and Genelle (Coover) Stevens.  He attended school at Polk and graduated from Polk High school in 1959.  He was united in marriage to Mary Frederick on June 17, 1972 in Kearney.  To this union three children were born; Bill, Bud, and Gene.

Theodore (Ted) Janzen

 Theodore “Ted” R. Janzen, age 85, of Henderson, died Friday, December 15, 2017 at Henderson. He was born on October 9, 1932 in Lehigh, Kansas to Peter C. and Susie (Regier) Janzen, the youngest of 16 children. Theodore accepted Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord when he was 12 years-old and was baptized into Springfield K.M.B. Church.
Theodore grew up on a farm near Lehigh, Kansas with two neighboring families and their children. Theodore graduated from Maple Hill School District 100 in 1947. He graduated from Lehigh High School in 1951. During this time he enjoyed playing basketball, baseball, softball, and track.

Robert Willis

Robert Willis, age 89, of Aurora, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2017, Memorial Community Care in Aurora.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 19 at the Aurora United Methodist Church in Aurora.  Rev. Robert Hamilton Willis, the son of Ralph and Hilma (Anderson) Willis, was born at, Aurora, on December 30, 1927 and passed away in Aurora, on December 14, 2017, at the age of 89.

Billy E. McHargue

Billy E. McHargue, 82, of Lincoln, passed away on Dec. 8, 2017.  He was born Dec. 11, 1934 to William Hiram McHargue and Frieda Mae (Drawbough) McHargue, on a farm near Central City.  Billy grew up on a farm outside of Marquette and attended country school through 8th grade.  He went to and graduated from Aurora High School in Aurora in 1952.  Billy graduated from UNL in 1958 with an Economic Degree.  Billy married his high school sweetheart at the United Methodist Church in Aurora.  Billy and Marlene Simpson were united in marriage on Nov. 28, 1954.  To this union three children were born, Vicky, Debbie and Mike. Billy ran his parents farm for 23 years and worked for NIS Financial Services/Ozark National Life until his retirement in 2002.  Billy and Marlene traveled for six years; saw all the states several times, including Alaska, Mexico and Canada.
