Linda Johnson Petzoldt

Linda Johnson Petzoldt, age 53, of Aurora, passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2017, at her home.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 6 at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Aurora.  Pastor Bruce Bradley will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Memorials may be made to the family.  Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.  Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
Linda Kay (Johnson) Petzoldt, the daughter of Warren Richard ‘Dick’ and Margaret Ann (Carnes) Johnson, was born in Grand Island, on December 13, 1963 and passed away in Aurora, on April 30, 2017, at the age of 53.

Dorothy Chaney

Dorothy Chaney, age 97, of Aurora, formerly of Giltner, passed away Monday, May 1, 2017, at Memorial Community Care.
A Memorial Service will be held later this summer during the Ruebsamen Family Reunion.  Dorothy was buried next to her husband, Roy at the Phillips Cemetery on Wednesday, May 3 during a private family service.  Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora is in charge of arrangements. Dorothy Marie Chaney, the daughter of Albert and Anna Mathilda (Nodland) Ruebsamen, was born on a farm near Harvard, on November 2, 1919 and passed away in Aurora, on May 1, 2017, at the age of 97.

Kim Andrews

Kim Andrews, age 61, of Aurora, passed away on Monday, May 1, 2017 at his home.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 4 at the Aurora United Methodist Church.  Rev. Ron Harris will officiate.  Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.  Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.  Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
Kim L. Andrews, the son of James and Beverly (Buck) Andrews, was born in Beatrice, on October 3, 1955 and passed away in Aurora, on May 1, 2017, at the age of 61.
Kim grew up and attended school in Wymore.   
On September 16, 1989, Kim was united in marriage to Melinda McManus.   They had three children; Bryce, Audrey and Holly.  Kim was a railroad conductor for BNSF for 41 years.
Kim enjoyed his family and going fishing.
He was preceded in death by his father.

Beulah McKenney

Beulah May McKenney, the daughter of Orville A. and Anna (Flegel) Minnig, was born on August 28, 1922 on the family homestead near Red Elm, in Ziebach County, South Dakota. She went to be with the Lord on April 25, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society at Superior, at the age of 94 years, 7 months, 28 days.
She attended grade school at Lewis School, a country school a mile from her home and high school at Dupree, South Dakota. In 1938 the family moved to Lincoln, where she graduated from Lincoln High School in 1940.
After graduation, she accepted a secretarial position with the State of Nebraska, Director of the American Legion Auxiliary, and worked with the 1941 Girls’ State activities. In 1942 she became head bookkeeper at the Hardy Furniture Company in Lincoln, where she worked for nine years.

Sharon (Sowers) Stiegemeier

Harvard resident, Sharon Jean (Sowers) Stiegemeier, 74 passed away, Monday, April 24, 2017 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings.
Services will be held Monday, May 1, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Harvard Church of Christ with Pastor Dave Johnson Officiating. Burial will be in the First Evangelical Cemetery, Harvard. Visitation will be Sunday, April 30, 2017 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Apfel Funeral Home, Harvard. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.apfelfuneralhome.com. Arrangements by Apfel Funeral Home, Harvard.
Memorials may be given to the family to be designated at a later date.

Vera Hughes Lienert

Vera Hughes Lienert, 95 of Grand Island died on Tuesday, April 25, 2017.
Private graveside service will be in the Harvard Cemetery. All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family.
She was born at Belgrade in 1921, daughter of Frank and Jennie Hughes. She received her education in Belgrade, graduating in 1939.
She married Eugene Lienert in 1942 at Hastings. They made their home in numerous midwest cities during the time Mr. Lienert was employed by the United States Department of Commerce, Civil Aeronautics Administration. In 1951 they settled in rural Hamilton County, retiring in 1980 to Grand Island. Mr. Lienert died in 2000.
Mrs. Lienert is survived by nine children, sixteen grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.

LeAnn Crawford

LeAnn Kay Crawford, 55, of Anchorage, Alaska, formerly of Phillips, passed away on March 1, 2017.
Service and celebration of LeAnn’s life will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 29, at the Phillips Activity Hall in Phillips.  Her ashes will be buried in Phillips Cemetery.
LeAnn was born February, 4, 1962 in Omaha, the only daughter of Larey and Marlene Crawford.  She grew up in Phillips before relocating to Alaska.  She loved Alaska, her job with United States Fish and Wildlife Service and the many friends she made while living there.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Joshua Phillips currently with the National Guard; parents, Larey and Marlene of Phillips; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Kim Crawford of Aurora and Todd and Jody Crawford of Greer, SC; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; close relatives and friends.
Memorials are suggested to the family.

Kermit Peters

Kermit Peters, age 86, of Hampton, died Sunday, April 23, 2017, at his home.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m, Wednesday, April 26 at the Chapel of Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora.  Rev. Jim Voth will officiate.  Inurnment will be at the Hampton City Cemetery.  No Visitation.  Memorials may be made to Bethesda Mennonite Church.   Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
Kermit Dell Peters, the son of John A. and Elisabeth (Friesen) Peters, was born in York County, on September 18, 1930 and passed away in Hampton, on April 23, 2017, at the age of  86.
He grew up in Hampton and attended school through the 8th grade.  Following his schooling, Kermit worked on the family farm.

Treva Ilene Mercer

Treva Ilene Mercer, 87, died on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at the Hemingford Community Care Center.
She was born on November 3, 1929 in the family home near Guide Rock, to Jesse Millard and Esther Elizabeth (Guy) Kirkpatrick. She moved with her family to Alliance in a railroad box car in February of 1930. Jesse purchased the family farm northeast of Alliance in March of 1930 where family members continue to farm.
She was united in marriage to James W. Daugherty in 1947 and to this union was born a son, James W. Daugherty Jr. She married Donald E. Mercer in 1967.
